The owner of my wife's company not only actively screens employee emails, but he has alerts set up anytime emails contain certain keywords, it triggers an alert. Words include "resume" and other job seeking terms.

Oh yeah. Many firms do this.
Keyword alerts, random search, proprietary info, etc. are all things that can be flagged/screened.

IT has screens in place due to HIPAA. I only bother reading email if something is brought to my attention or there's a contentious parting of the ways with a direct. Last time that happened was about three years ago and her email was full of lulz. Wish I felt comfortable in sharing some of them but I don't.

Heh, my wife moved on from a large company and gave her 2 weeks. She basically sat around doing nothing for three days after they took her work computer. She was like "what am I supposed to do, not show up?" So she kept going in and brought her own computer and surfed the web all day killing time. And this was after the "exit interview" in which they took the work computer. I kept asking her why she kept going in...

I seem to recall you bringing that up.

Internet radio....

Pandora has a wider collection of songs/artists but I listen to fairly obscure/non-popular tunes so I don't really expect that much. That said, there's almost never a new artist or song that I've heard on it.

Spotify... damn. Four artists, maybe five per station usually but when it goes deep, it plays some really deep cuts or unkown artists. But I gotta deal with 45 minutes of the same ole same ole.

Probably to confirm that she received her full 2 weeks pay, plus anything else that was coming to her.
I would have done the same unless HR said that i could stay home and I had in writing what I would receive if I did.

I just flipped through the former employees folders of people who have left recently. Mostly just nicely sorted work product...but one of them had the signed offer letter from their new job, along with all of the supporting documents (immigration forms, pay stubs, bank statements, etc) sitting in a folder called "New Job".

facepalm.gif wtf people...of all the things to do on company time

MANY people do that on work time....because, usually, no one is "looking."

I hope you are making more than that guy.

Well, I guess if you are at the point where you are signing the offer letter...you probably don't care about using the office scanner to do so.

She was below me...so yes. But I hope it was a opportunity more in line with what she wanted...because I am pretty sure she is going to make less money for the amount of work. She would have been paid overtime, so while I am sure her base salary was much lower, overtime can quickly raise it. I don't think this girl worked much extra time...but the firm she moved to is going to work her a lot harder, and with those same hours, she would have made more money here.

But who knows...she probably didn't see any advancement opportunities here, and since I didn't work with her, I can't say whether her lack of overtime was because she just likes to go home at 5, or because her work wasn't very good and thus she didn't have a lot of people who wanted to assign her projects.

...or just that she didn't like the company.

Sandwich Artist: Aww man I live for dat Philly Cheese Steak sandwich so good!
Customer: You haven't put much thought into this statement. It requires qualifiers before it even begins to approach status of true, or else you got a narrow life to you.
Sandwich Artist: Uhh, I just meant it's a sandwich of which lifts my spirits when I direct my thoughts to it.
Customer: Too little too late I have to believe you prepare sandwiches as carelessly as you speak, to where my sandwich will be prepared hell of badly. I'm departing this establishment forthwith just donate my sandwich to Jason Newstead gave his two week notice and got fired.

Won't even lie, I gave this post a thumbs up after five words.
