I put my hands on my keyboard to type and accidentally hit the top of the spoon that was in my Udon soup.

Udon all over my face.

So let's look at the scenario with your additions:

Young guy, on the job one week, pushing "newer stuff."

Old people, happy with old technology, established employees.

Do you not see where my advice still fits perfectly? Best way to get people to change is to convince them change is good. Best way to convince people IRL is to let them get to know you before you start telling them how they're doing it the old fashioned way. I know this will grate on you but this task is easily accomplished through relationship building and will be almost impossible to accomplish without it.

this is pretty much the premise of kitchen nightmares only the new guy gets to scream at the owners and tell them they're fuck ups and potentially killing people

Yeah, but Gordon fucking Ramsey. He has built in cred.

You would think that if a several michelin star chef makes some assholish douchey drama friendly criticisms for a TV show you'd take it in stride considering that if you own a restaurant you probably know who he is and that he's an asshole. But no. All this bitching and moaning from people who are so bad at food they're losing their restaurant and had to resort to a fucking TV show to fix it in two days for some drama.

Also I don't understand why people don't vigorously scrub down everything if they've applied to be on the show and know that Ramsey and cameras are going to be in your walk in and dining room to document its state. Do they never watch a show? Always exactly the same thing. I feel like a lot of them go out of business because people realize how gross the whole operation used to be. I just hate the forced exaggerated drama of the U.S. versions.

its reality TV. my brother and sister in law won a "remodel your living room!" contest on HGTV back in the day and its all so heavily produced. I think they had like 100 workers come in and it took a week to finish but they literally had a scrip to follow with a director feeding them lines.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
the ffffuuuu.giffacepalm.giflol8[1].gif part is that that episode is constantly being replayed on cable TV in the philippines even though its nearing 10 years old, my brother and his wife got divorced and they sold that house. but its played randomly there and they'll still get texts/emails/facebook updates from friends asking "Did you get back together?! There's people spreading rumors you're divorced!"

Oh wow. I didn't know the HGTV shows are actually scripted. Some terrible fucking writers tho that need to be castrated

Those shows are more than just scripted, they're full of convenient lies.

My dad did an episode of Curb Appeal, gave the people a ~40% discount since it was a promotional thing. The show reported that the cost of the job was half of the discounted cost. Every sales lead they got was basically useless, everyone was expecting them to do the work below cost.

If they remodel my entire house I might be willing to deal with all the bullshit. MIGHT

People are cheap assholes

so it turns out kitchen nightmares wouldn't film you unless your kitchen was gross as fuck. if they were planning on bringing a cleaning crew in they were told they would not have the show filmed. so gordon gets to come in and yell at them about how dirty their kitchen is although it is their fault for having let it get so bad. and gordon seems like the genius, but they have a whole crew of consultants working on a solution for the restaurant and gordon gets credit

This is in fact one of the key reasons.

We're expected to start getting some snow around 10AM. maybe 3 inches. Anyway, I get to the office and 10 minutes later get the work from home email. Can't believe I took a shower for this.

when it comes to home remodeling and stuff, this is certainly a big thing. But the worst part is when people take things personally, and that seems to happen all the time to people who undergo big renovations and/or design changes.

I've always called bs on quoted prices on those kind of shows. They will be like "oh, we need to rewire the whole house that was $1,000 we weren't expecting,"

Apparently the DIY network shows are the same way. A former client was on one, and they show the home owner lay one tile or whatever then have the experts do the rest.
