My son woke up in the middle of the night puking. I'm looking after him for a bit while my wife takes the baby to daycare and grabs some work to bring home, then I'm off to work. The worst of it seems to have abated, but he still clearly feels pretty rough. Usually, when he comes down with something, it doesn't phase him at all, so if he's obviously sick he must feel pretty awful. I hate seeing him this way, and I'm sympathetic because vomiting is pretty much the worst thing in the world to me.
This week is also the worst possible time for me to be out, especially Thursday and Friday, so now I have to hope I can fend off whatever he has. Fortunately, I've actually never caught a stomach bug from him. He's good for one a year, usually sometime in February-March, and somehow I never come down with it (I'm guessing it's because stomach stuff in kids is usually stuff adults have already had). Still, I kind of feel like a defendant waiting on a verdict - given the way stomach bugs spread and the fact that I'm taking care of him, there's nothing I can do to avoid catching it, so I just have to wait it out and see if I start ralphing.
I'm also exhausted because I've only slept about half an hour since just before 4:00 this morning.
Oh, and I hope quarantining the baby will protect her from it, because having her come down with it too would just make everything worse.
