Laid off last Friday. They gave me one month working notice while I find a new job in the meantime (vs 1 week severance pay) so I go that going for me which is nice... though it'll probably be awkward as fuck all around for the next month.

What's the point to have an employee who is leaving having access to information, data, money and so on in your organisation on top of the awkardness?

GF, the lawyers are probably right about small claims court because I had a landlord who clearly violated MN law. He didn't mail me notice of withholding my security deposit and then just sent me to collections claiming I owed an extra month's rent. In court, they showed an invoice they claimed they mailed me with the wrong address on it, which shouldn't count. The judge didn't seem to care and sided with the landlord. It was a huge hassle for nothing.

With that being said, it is definitely in the lawyers' best interest to go with the longer, more drawn out process.

Sonick, that sucks. One good thing about my previous employer was they would do the layoff notices and give you ~1 month of notice, but they would give you 2 weeks of severance for every year of service with a minimum of 8 weeks.

The working notice they've given me is definitely not typical, but as far as they've told me the reasoning behind it is that my work is still valuable and they trust me enough that I won't do anything untoward during my last days.

I've only been with the organization just under a year, so I would've only gotten 1 week of severance.

Scored an amazing deal a sport coat on Yoox. Fits nearly perfectly without any alterations--except for the dreaded shoulder divots. Will probably have to return because I can't ignore the damn things and I can't live my life in robo-pose.
