Now stick with it. You know what'll happen if you go back on your word and your request/demand. Many of us have been there.

Just got back from vascation. One of the girls had a 5 minute tantrum on the plane. Between the two girls, they have flown maybe 120 maybe 160 hours altogether. We have had two bad tantrums. But of course the whole plane wants to lynch us and people who I am sure are perfectly nice are mutting rude **** under their breath. I almosy called some old lady the C word she was being so rude.

Anyway, the kids are grounded for at least 10 months now, maybe more.

Not having anything to do in this small time town when the sun goes down.

Plenty of outdoor hobbies to entertain myself with otherwise.

For years the women at my office have been a pleasant combination of competence and eye-candy. A few have been quite nice to gaze upon, and there have been more than a few prodigious racks that have bounced past (or into) my office throughout the years.

Well, old boy, times have changed. The eye candy has been cleared out, and we have been overrun by a stampede of morbidly obese women with all the spine of overcooked spaghetti. If it were one or the other (competent but hideous or dull but gorgeous), I could tolerate matters. But I have neither. And I grieve.

Is it too much to ask that we hire competent women whose feet point in the same direction when they walk?!?

Wow. I just returned from my condo board meeting. A quick refresher: I'm not on the board. I've had complaints about our upstairs neighbors (now gone seemingly twice over with some potentially noisy ones in again).

Anyway. The discussion is on some issues with people not following the rules. Some aggression towards our doormen was alleged to have occured so I suggested that certainly one could call the police. Because that was met with "sure if you want to wait a few hours," I said that they showed up quite promptly when I called them about my neighbors.

One of the new board members then looked at me and replied something to the effect of "You called the cops on your neighbor? Nice one; that's cool," in an absolutely douchebaggy condescending voice. I was stunned.

My retort: "Yes, and if you have issues with that we can talk after the meeting," in a rather unpleasant tone. I guess I can call him instead the next time my wife is awake at 3am crying because our neighbors won't shut up. Yeah, I'm sure he'll take care of it. Asshole.

I'm just stunned both at his audacity to judge a situation he knows nothing about and that he thought it was okay to behave that way in the middle of a board meeting, as a board member.

What the ****?

crappy week at work.

there is a young lady in our marketing department, who doesn't report to me but who provides me with services: she is reposnsible for trade shows, and I have two shows a year, so I need her support for those shows. anyway, she is 30, and very good at her field, marketing communication, but doesn't know anything about international marketing. here is the problem - she is convinced that she knows better than I do about what I need, and simply won't listen to me when I try to explain what I want. she would much rather come up with a creative idea that will meet my needs the way she believes that they are. on top of that, I feel (and I may very well be over sensitive) that she isn't very respectful to me. anyway, this has blown up this week, and in my discussion with this young lady's boss (another young lady) I seem to have made the boss cry, even though I was really trying to be very nice and measured about it.

so, part of me is pissed off at not getting exactly what I want. part of me is pissed off at the fact that I made this girl cry, when I really was trying not to, and part of me is pissed off at her for crying.

on top of that, this is the 4rth person in 2 years I have had some kind of conflict with at work, and I am honestly not happy about it, and it can be said that in each case the cause of the conflict was that I wanted to manage how they were doing their work, to some extent or another.

anyway, so I am not very happy with the young lady, myself or the situation right now.

^Ouch. Messed up!

Pissing me off is the fact that I jumped through a bunch of hoops (multiple intense interviews, multiple tests, etc) to apply for a tutoring job at my school, and I can't get the position b/c I'm not work study eligible. The lady was really excited about having me and said that I was one of the better math minds she'd seen at the school in years. So basically, they can't let the intelligent kid with tutoring experience (me) tutor people, rather they have to let someone who is less intelligent with no tutoring experience tutor b/c that person has poor parents. WTF.

I hear ya, but here's my perspective.

I run through four conflicts in an average quarter, including one major blow-up. I tend to wait until end of day or next day and have another sit-down over coffee before smoothing any feathers. Just because I may feel bad about how things went does not make me a bad guy - it makes me opinionated and serious about what I do. Nothing wrong with that.

And if it's my neck on the line, you bet I'm bruising feelings if things aren't exactly as I want them. Excuses don't put bread on the table.

I am certain I am much younger than you two, being basically just out of college, but I was suprised that the biggest adjustment I had to make with getting a real, full-time office job was how I dealt with people. I am very direct and self-assured, and most other people in my office (the majority of which that I deal with at my tier happen to be women) are very sensitive to things that I would just let roll off my back. From my perspective, it feels like I'm walking on eggshells. I'm used to hanging out with guys in their 20s, we are competitive and confrontational, women, they are passive aggressive, they perceive affronts where I see none. It's honestly the hardest part of my job. I wish everyone in my office looked at things like Thomas.

you're right. actually, I have been working in an office with people who are just too ******* nice, and it makes me look like a nazi in comparison. also, I have been nicer in the past 2 years than I ever have been in my life, but it doesn't seem to be nice enough. part of me just wants to say "*******, you aren't cut out to be nice, stop trying and get back to being a bastard".

thanks - thomas

Tonight I restrung my guitar and I bungled my way through it like I was a noob who had never done it before, for some reason making a mess of it. Then I finished and realized I put on the wrong string gauge - way too light.
