Agreed, which places Missouri on par with Kentucky WRT "Southernness." Neither seceded, though there were attempts in both to make it happen. Kentucky isn't really Southern, either, though there are areas where it is culturally influenced by the South, much like you're describing parts of Missouri. So, basically, a bit of Southern influence in areas that are contiguous to former CSA states, but not the South
