It genuinely sounds like a really ****** situation. It's tough to blame a father for enabling his children, when to him he believes that he is giving them the love and support he feels they deserve. Hopefully, either they or he will come to their senses and they will clean up their act or he will dose out some tough love. Not sure if you get the TV show Intervention broadcast up in Canada, but if you do, maybe you could subtly suggest that you and your step father watch and episode or two. He may find that he has a lot in common with the people featured on the show.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. There's one dude at my workplace who not only brushes his teeth, but he also washes his dishes in the sink.

^I'm still in total disagreement with you on that one.

I'd rather have people brush their teeth than deal with bad breath and things in their teeth when talking to them after lunch.

This runs doubly true with people who smoke and or drink copious amounts of coffee (which tends to bring out the bad breath)... more power, and a personal thank you to them... after they brush their teeth before dealing with me.
