Depositing big cheques: anything over 10k gets held for X number of business days. Last time I deposited a major cheque, at a credit union that holds my mortgage and has known me for a decade, they released several thousand after a day or two, several more after a few days, and the rest after the end of a week. I think it has to do with terrorism and Elliot Spitzer type stuff.
