Man, I'm not even that nice of a guy, but I am running a serious streak of being the guy that girls talk to about guys rather than being the guy they try to hook up with.

5 inches of snow last night. :fu: Had to haul my new heavy ass fridge through snow. On the bright side, I have my own fridge now.

Have this weird tingling sensation from elbows to fingertips, and knees to toes. No idea what it is, seeing Dr. Wednesday.

I am editing papers for a journal. I request that authors submit their papers in the Chicago Manual of Style format. They send me e-mails saying "Here is the paper, formatted in Chicago style." But here's the thing: the papers are not in anything resembling the Chicago style. So I spend my weekend putting lots of papers into the Chicago format. And correcting quotations that authors get wrong. And correcting their grammar. In an office that is too cold because the university apparently doesn't think anyone works here on weekends.

Granted they aren't prefect, but they have software which greatly simplifies this process. I mean for them, you shouldn't have to fix other peoples mistakes.

As the editor, unfortunately I do have to fix other people's mistakes. But I know what you mean here; this is a fairly unusual case where I've got to get the manuscripts finished quickly. I don't have time to keep sending them back to the authors, who would probably fail to make the appropriate corrections anyway.

What really amazes me is that so many people get quotations wrong. How do you do that? And why am I able to notice it when the authors are not?

Yeah, it really is a frustrating job. When I submit things for publication, I take care to get basic things like formatting and quotations right. Not so much to make the editor's job easier, but because I have some pride. Thankfully, editing is not something I do a lot of. (I'm just guest editing now.)

Much as I'm excited to fly home and see my family and go back to my old routine I do not relish the thought of being inside a plane for 15 hours straight. Hey airplane manufacturers, instead of making bigger planes that can fit a gazillion people why not make faster trans-ocean planes that can cut travel time instead?
