iTunes. It's such a ****** app. Mind-boggling slow, so inconvenient. I hate it. And consequently, Microsoft is pissing me off because they can't put out a decent alternative to the iPod

I don't understand the iTunes hate. I like the program quite a bit. Maybe it runs faster on a mac? I remember it used to be slower on a PC but I haven't use the PC version for quite some time.

I have only once had a problem with iTunes, and that might have more accurately been a problem with Vista recognizing the iPod. But it's fixed. Never had another problem.

I'm not overly fond of the way the store is set-up. I think that could be improved.

Agreed. I've actually never had a problem with it.

I like iTunes a lot in general, but now that my library has gotten real big, it's quite slow. It's really frustrating to run iTunes simultaneously with any other program--which is kind of the point. I'm not sure if that's iTunes fault or my computer, but my comp isn't bogged down with other crap or anything.

Exactly. I have around 5,500 songs. Windows Media Player handles this fine. iTunes absolutely does not. I'm probably doing some things wrong though, but still...everytime I open it, it takes about three minutes to analyze the playback gap for the library (it does this automatically) and last night it wasn't letting me delete songs. I hate it, and I was strictly a Mac user until 2002. I doubt I'll ever return.

+1. If you have a PC it's very very slow and crashes, has numerous bugs, etc.

Unfortunately, as you said-- MSFT has not put out a great alternative.

Aha, we only have a max of 500 songs on ours, I'm willing to be.

I have to say though, that I find W Media Player to be very frustrating. I have to use that at work and probably have 500 songs on that as well. My biggest complaint is that it won't remember your settings from the last time you used it (sorted by artist, etc.). I just don't get how it chooses to sort the songs when you first open. It seems random (but not quite).

Books that are released with different titles in, say, the U.S. and the U.K. I've noticed this happens a lot with mystery/thriller/espionage series where the same primary characters recur throughout the series. This compounds the problem because the familiar names don't necessarily serve as a tip-off that you've read the book before. Aside from the waste of money when I fall into this trap, there's nothing worse than settling in with what you think is a new-to-you book from an author you enjoy, reading 15-20 pages, and suddenly realizing you know exactly what's going to happen because you've read the f'ing thing before.
Crap.

Anyway, because it serves my little fit of pique and because I hate for books to go to waste, anyway who wants a free (shipping charges on me in the U.S.) paperback copy of Olen Steinhauer's "The Vienna Assignment" -- a/k/f'ing/a "36 Yalta Boulevard", PM me.

I can assure you it's a pretty good read, because I've f'ing read it before!

Strange, it remembers my sort settings. It does have some very stupid design issues but it works pretty well for me, with a ... rather large database.

Frankly, I blame it on our IT dept. It's probably not their fault, but they're a bunch of idiots.
