Just like seatbelts and airbags, sure they can cause and exacerbate certain things, but they prevent more problems than they cause by a long shot.
Your second point is also uninformed nonsense. The data for seatbelts, airbags, and motorcycle helmets clearly favours their use, with bike helmets it's actually the opposite. In all jurisdictions with mandatory helmet laws where reliable statistics are available fatalities have increased or remained stable after the introduction of the law. Helmets are either useless or a hazard.
Also people die and are seriously injured all the time doing normal every day activities, should they all wear helmets? Should we wear helmets in the shower? It’s ludicrous. Pointing out isolated incidents where people are injured does not negate the fact that cycling is a very safe activity and Styrofoam hats are stupid.
