yes, fair enough, but one trip, and then you post on the internet about your food?

I can have bread dumplings, gulash, beer and sausages for a week.

I had some pretty good food there. I avoided the overly saucy stuff and the bread dumplings are quite underwhelming, but they seem to like cooking duck and I like a nice roasted or confit duck. Also, I am always up for some good sausage and sauerkraut.

I spent the last 4 weeks going to 4 different interviews between 6 people at one company literally across the street doing the same job I'm doing only slightly more involved....and was told today there was a better candidate. (It pays about 8% more with 15 directs versus 5 that I have, title is less sexy than mine)

Although every fibre in my being tells me I shouldn't worry about things that are beyond my control, I can't but imagine that somehow this reflects on my self worth - that there is actually a better version of me out there. That this year is also a milestone year for me and that European post I did 3 years ago is getting stale makes me cringe a little more.

The redeeming thing is I get to keep wearing my suit & tie to work as this place was more business casual - says the bloke who is steaming his clothing as he types this.

had a big fight with my wife last night over a bunch of stuff that fermented for a while, I guess. doens't happen very often, and most often it happens just like this, right before I go away on a busuiness trip. she gets really uptight about stuff and then snaps over something that has been simering but she hasn't told me about. not fun but it will pass.

The silliness surrounding the G-20 conference in Toronto this week. Already had one information interview fall through and a couple applications I know I won't hear from until the second week of July at the earliest.

How much longer do you think you'll have to travel so much? I can imagine it being difficult for the wife in the long run.

20-25 years, give or take.

yeah, its not easy, but its what I do for a living, and I can't really get into anything else without taking a big step down in income for a few years, which I can't afford to do.

on the other hand, my son is in school, my twins go to pre-school 4 days a week for 3 hours. we have a housekeeper for 20 hours a week, and my wife probrably uses a baby sitter 2 nights a week. when I am home, I work from home 4 days a week, so I take the kids to school and pick them up and usually have lunch with my wife and the girls. when I am home, I am home around 4 or so t spend time with the family. there are plusses and minoses to the situation. my wife has a shitload of friends, and her mother comes for 8 weeks a year, so she has company.

I understand that it is hard, but it is a pretty good life. she pretty much doesn't have to do any work outside of the house, any cleaning, any laundry, and cooking. she deals with the kids after school and before school, she sits on some boards, she pays the bills. those are her occupations.

People who make it a point to pretend to know not or be confused what somebody says when they mis-speak or mis-spell something, even though it's obvious what they really meant. e.g. You are talking about a party on Saturday, it is currently Thursday. You say "Well I'll see you at the party tomorrow." They go "Why, what do you mean? What's going on Friday?"

I miss California. Something about that place just really captivated me. I don't know if it was how beautiful it was, how I was entirely surrounded by something I'm passionate about, or just the fact that it was my first time ever being completely "on my own" and having to be an adult, but man do I miss it. I love Chicago, and I'm so happy to be close to my family and my gf, but it just isn't the same.

this. There is something very exhilirating about being away from your family and feeling completely free.

My friends girlfriend completely sketching out at me and crying because I told her what she said was wrong, but because it was her birthday, apparently I have to brown nose her and even if she says some completely inane **** just agree with her. He's completely whipped as well.
