Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW! - Page 1245

I'm probably going to have to move super last minute.

The apartment flood destroyed my floors and they want to replace them all with tile...an option would probably be to pack everything up and move it to the basement storage room for a few anId then move it back and unpack--but that kind of sucks.
They are offering to move me to another unit...but they won't cut the rent on them down to what I pay and I think they will all suck.
Third option would be to declare it uninhabitable and give notice that I am vacating and break the lease (Since they can't fix it with me in the unit...I think I have legal standing to break the lease without issue) and find a new place.

The problem with options 2 and 3 are that anything that is unleased for september probably sucks. Friends who have found new places said that september sucked really bad in the chicago market this year...and thus anything that isn't taken is probably either shitty or way overpriced.
I'm willing to pay more than I currently pay but not for a big drop in square footage or an awkward layout.

Anyone know where I would stand on getting my current management company to pay for movers if I stay in my unit or building? They can't fix it with me in the unit so it seems like it should be their responsibility. I have a broken hand so I can't really do it myself

+1. If this works I want a good one because this happens to me at least once a week due to my onset insomnia/lifestyle.

my monday at work was an endless stream of loud noises from my co-workers, including my superiors, about the most nonsensical issues, a fucking mouse entered my room while I was working (or browsing sf), and to top it off I'm dealing with constant jolts of pain running down my thigh because of a probable case if sciatica that feels like electric shock being adminstered... and dammit I hope its just sciatica and not some spinal damage or something:fu:

Sucks man... except for the mouse, that's adorable.

Not sure of brand names..they are fairly common here in Japan so I think it is just something my wife picked up at a department store. But I think that the "Soba" pillows that you can find in the US would work just fine. I found this from a quick google search: http://www.target.com/p/Original-Sobakawa-Buckwheat-Pillow-45-Off-45-White/-/A-10442425

Landlord is showing the place to prospective renters lately, she has a knack for sending me texts that go unnoticed because theyre at weird times of the day, or texts me 5 minutes before she comes upstairs and keys in on her own. Problem is, we have a dog and if the dog went through the front door as she is going to do whenever the door opens, she'd be out on the street and dead within minutes. I can't really control this landlord from coming in but I'm always halfway across the city inevitably and it takes an hour to get back home sometimes. ffffuuuu.gif Landlord came in yesterday while I was out at work and I had to rush home to make sure she didnt let the dog out, half expecting I'd have to peel my dog off the street (I live on a main 8-lane road). Dog is ok thankfully, but it's one of those situations... ffffuuuu.gif

The dog has torn up most of the wallpaper, damaged the fake wood floors, and eaten all the baseboards in the apartment - that is okay though, because the room is tiny and the stuff is meant to be disposable and redone with each new tenant here, that is standard for this country. It's all fake fiberboard and vinyl laminate shit anyway. If I redid the entire apartment I think it will cost about $2000, looks like we need both wallpaper and flooring. Understandably the landlord is pissed about that, but we've been here for 3 years and the stuff is just not meant to go that long anyway. She has $10K from us as a deposit for these kinds of things, she is supposed to not care and just make deductions where needed.

Got a month left and we're gonna move to Tokyo. Found a great apartment in a nice neighborhood, at a good price. It's one-bedroom with an additional loft plus a downstairs bedroom and a toilet, so it's essentially a 1BR plus guestroom/study, or a 2.5 story 2BR apartment (that is kind of a stretch considering the size... but yeah), whichever way you want to look at it. Suits my needs pretty well and the price is good, and even better, they only want one month up front instead of the usual Japanese four plus key money gift, and are giving away a free month of rent at the end as well.
We've applied for it through a broker, and many brokers have rights to this place so if one guy fails, we can try another, but the broker is taking awhile thinking about it because I'm a foreigner ffffuuuu.gif

That sounds like a pretty good place for a foreigner in Japan man, what happens to TOJ when you leave?
