Well, a bad GMAT score is why I didn't apply to MBA programs. With the competition nowadays, schools use any excuse not to let you in. And I as well had a solid GPA, dean's list, good work experience and stellar recommendations (including from a an ex-prof of mine who got her MBA / Ph.D from Wharton and used to teach there). Hopefully at least one of the other schools says yes so you at least have that option open.

Just got offered a job I think I really want, but at an insulting salary. Even if I make a ballsy counter offer, I still would be way less than I was expecting. This is actually less than I made 5 years ago. Not sure what to do.

Keep in mind the whole 10% unemployment rate.
And you're in Michigan; there are probably 100 people standing in line behind you, ready to take the job if you don't.

+1

I took a job a few years ago at a significant cut in income, 3 years later I was back on top.

This is a pretty specialized position. Not 100 people. Maybe 75. Based on my reaserch, they offered me about 20-30K less than what the going rate for this position is, especially with my experiance.

See, what I think happened was that they had their hearts set on a more senior guy, but decided to hire us both. I got the short end of the salary stick. My challege is that 1) I potentially could make that much staying as a commerical broker this year (and very likely quite a bit more next year and after) 2) if I take this low salary, I will constantly be looking for another more lucrative job (even if it means out of state), which I really dont want to do, because I know how I get.

I was afraid this would happen. I am torn, obviosuly I will counter them, and if they say no, or dont want to get up that high, then I may have to say no and keep looking. I wasnt expeciting to max out the salary range for this job, given the company that it is, but I am not going to whore myself out either.

Not much food in the house so I had a couple of pints of cheap ice cream for supper. Feel pretty rough now.
