x2 on making your own. You know what's going into it, and it is not difficult at all.

Some peanut butter, bananas, milk, protein, oats, strawberries, motor oil, thumbtacks, etc... Just throw it in there! Decide what you're going to need in the shake (the nutritional breakdown) and take it from there

I've used GNC's Lean Muscle Meal replacement as a meal substitute, when trying top lose weight and maintain muscle mass (Disclaimer: the term muscle mass is used loosely in this instance!). I did drop the weight but, can't really say how effectively I maintained the muscle. Although, I think it worked.
