Do you suffer from constipation? - Page 3

Thankfully I don't have this problem. But on trips being too regular can be an annoyance. Talk about medicine they have some that binds you up which I have had to use at times and always take with me on trips.

For me being a little constipated allows me to choose when I want to go and if I can't find time then so what. It all works out in the end.

Being regular is a product of your eating habits. Most of our eating habits have been developed over a long period of time. We don't even know what we are doing to ourselves but we just go on till whenever. Then we have a problem and want to take care of it in a short period of time. It took years to get where you are now can it be expected to be remedied overnight?

My advice is to make sure to gradually adjust your diet. Don't go from a no-fiber diet to a high-fiber diet--this will just confuse your body. Your digestive tract will empty itself out that first day, but you will have a hard time establishing regularity. Of course, the converse is also true. Once you are on a high fiber diet, your digestive system becomes used to a high amount of fiber. So if you go a day without fiber, your digestive tract will pretty much come to a grinding halt. For this reason, I like to carry some fiber supplements when I go on vacations or during times when my diet is more unpredictable. Also, I have found that waking up at approximately the same time each day also increases regularity. I don't mean you have to set your alarm for the exact same time. But getting up at 6 AM one day, followed by sleeping until noon the next will just throw off your body patterns. Finally, try to eat at least some fruits and veggies with every meal. Certain fruits and veggies have more fiber than others. I'm sure this information is on the web somewhere. Try substituting cooked veggies for salads, or just eat a hell of a lot of salad. Have you ever cooked a spinach salad before? One entire plate of spinach leaves turns into about 2 bites of cooked spinach. You can really increase your intake of fiber by eating cooked veggies.

The blood pressure medication I take makes me constipated as hell. Didn't previously have that problem at all.

As others have recommended, I use prune juice or more commonly prunes to deal with the problem.
