Shell Cordovan Wallet Pron - Page 56

A few recent projects...

Over the last few months I've been slowly receiving some more "rare" Horween Shell Cordovan colors. I first received Color #4, then a few months later I received the Dark Green, then a few weeks later some Dark Cognac, and next week I should be receiving some Unglazed Natural Shell Cordovan.

The one difference with the unglazed is... obviously, it isn't glazed. What that means is it has more of a matte finish than a glossy. From my experience, you can get the matte to glossy pretty easily with some Venetian Shoe Cream. But I just happen to like the natural matte look better. I should be receiving some Bourbon and Navy in the future as well as 3 of each of those colors in scotch grain print.

One question people usually ask is, "How do you get all those rare colors?!" and the answer is, "Buy a lot." You can often get lucky with The Tannery Row and get #8 or Black fairly easy and occasionally can get Natural, Dark Cognac or Navy but it usually a small piece. I had to put in a bulk order of around 100 total shells to get all these colors which ends up being pricing but I figure it'll last me a year or so. I don't necessarily say this to brag - just to give people a little background on if they're wanting to pick up some of these colors as well.

ANYWAY... here are the recent projects:

Just got my Ashland Leather key case in the mail! This new horween color is called "garnet" and it's just inched it's way into my top 3 favor shell colors. Looks very nice next to my new color #8 Bugs Moran. Also, anyone have any shell cordovan watch strap recommendations to pair with a grey face dress watch? 🤔

Hi all,  I just want to share my first J Michael Ashland Horween Shell Cordovan men's bifold wallet after year and half of carrying.  It looks so much better than when I first got it, it looks much shinier than before, there are some scratches and dents but all pretty much faded and can't see them unless you really look for them up close.

Ashland makes watch straps. I would go with either a #8 or navy. They were recently on Massdrop, but I passed on it as they seemed too long for me.

Selling one?

Got a little crazy last night... I have been wanting to make this for awhile and hadn't made anything "different" for awhile. So I realized I had 8 different kinds of Horween Shell Cordovan so I made a wallet utilizing all 8 colors.

Specs

Exterior: Unglazed Natural

Left First Slot: Dark Green

Left Second Slot: Whiskey

Left Hidden Slot: Dark Cognac

Middle: Color #4

Right Hidden Slot: Black

Right Second Slot: Brown

Right Second Slot: Color #8

Pretty fun to make something like this. I didn't know how it would turn out but I tried to make the colors grouped in a way that made them look the best. Turned out pretty well I think!

That looks really awesome!

Looks great. Will you be keeping that or possibly selling it? I'm curious how much something like that would cost

I'm selling it on my website for $450. Priced similarly to any other full shell item I'd make.

That is tempting. At first I was looking at the experimental one you made with inspiration from your dad and now I'm stuck contemplating on this. And yet I've got a couple of other gifted wallets so hard to justify but no one else is going to make a rainbow shell cordovan wallet. Sigh, decisions.

That Frankenshell wallet is a great idea.  You should equip your Horween rep with one (for a serious barter of course) so she/he can skip the sample case and simply present.  But not this one - you should really send this one to me.  : )

I'm definitely going to look into Ashland Leather's watch straps! A color #8 strap would be amazing. And holy hell, Deuces! That wallet is gorgeous!

Looks great! It's amazing what a constant buffing as the wallet goes in and out of a pants pocket will do for its luster. My black Ashland Louis is way shinier and smoother after a couple of months as well!
