The shearling liner looks very cozy, but I can't legislate spending that much on a liner. Perhaps if one appears in the sale I'll snap one up. That said, I don't think it suits the field jacket too well.

However, I'm still on the hunt for a bargain down liner if anyone's keep to move one on...

@zissou, please keep us updated on your thoughts on the jacket once you get it and start to wear it more. I am still strongly considering the field jacket (m-65) as I need a military jacket in my wardrobe and I really like this one. The price is high, but my main concern is the polarizing reviews on here. Some people love it and say its great, but it seems a lot of the long term reviews say the fabric isn't all that its supposed to be, and loses its qualities before too long. So let us know how it works out for you and how the like the quality.

Sure, will do, guys. I'm not necessarily expecting some magical waterproof jacket since I'll use it mostly as a winter parka. I have my Cabourn Cameraman for wet, snowy days, and tech wear for truly wet days. My expectations are also probably a little lower considering I got it for 70% off. Really, I just want a parka to wear over Inverallan knits, and would love to get the shearling liner and hood for wearing with thinner layers.

I think you have a good base line of how well made a product is given your experiences with other brands.

I picked one up for £260 on ebay, (£290 after postage). The seller was very honest, it's worn 15ish times, some slight defects (if you can call them that) include the velcro not being overly sticky, and one of the poppers is slightly troublesome, but it sticks.

I feel the quality so far is excellent, and the fabric and fit of the jacket are not an issue at all. Mine's been slightly "bedded-in" already. The seller and I have very similar heights and weights, which is perhaps why it fits me so well already. I'd certainly recommend buying one.

Just a side note, by field jacket fits nice without a liner. I've worn it with a thick armor-lux knit, and it was a snug fit. How much does the liner pad the jacket out? I don't want to buy one if it ends up making it tight under my arms etc. I'm actually considering a sleeveless alternative, as ugly as that may be.
