"SF approved" still has a ring of truth to it, even if it's used ironically. There are certain looks and certain items that the majority of us would deem "good", so for better or worse those things get the stamp of approval.
The higher frequency of these looks and items in waywn and other threads just reinforce the approval rating. The only way to expand the notion of what is "good" is to look at and discuss things outside of the SF norm that are of high quality. That's why I like the visual threads like Sartorialist, Non-Sartorialist and Vintage Images, even if half the time they're filled with snarky "look at that clown, he's wearing a scarf with a suit" comments.
