I have friends who just started at Vault ranjed firms who are miserable and suckers who are doing contract work for pennies on the dollar. On the other hand I did my own thing, probobly going to work at a smaller firm on LI that will pay decent by NY standards and very well compared to most non big firm starting $ (not near $160 top market but certainly a living wage) + medical and a potential bonus my first year out with the potential for litigation experience within 6 moths. That is perfect for me, if it works out I'll be thrilled. The mis-information that flies around the internet used to drag me down. Like the topic of female lawyers the generalizations are often times overbroad and usually without merit. Lawyers are at best quirky and on occasion downright anti-social and mean. Several girls I knew were not too nice whereas others were cute/pleasant/a hell of a lot smarter than me. Consider this... more women are attending prof. school and the decision to do so instead of (or delaying) having children is a hard one. Being a prof. also may alienate some men. Having such a career might entail developing a bit of a rough shoulder, a strong man may be comended for this, why shouldn't a female in the same position? I am young by prof. standards, 26, I started law school overweight and depressed and had a very low sense of self worth, espectially after 1st yr. Even then some girls were interested and I did not pursue them. Today I am anxiously awaiting my entry into the field. I have never been a school person, I enjoy working, find it more motivating and it provides me with more confidence. As in all fields of endeavor I expect to like some people and dislike some, hopefull those in the first category will severly outweigh the second. While I personally feel some/many hiring decisions are made for the wrong reason and I know girls who use their looks more than their brains to get what they want I think it is very unfair to categorize female lawyers/students as one static group. For may young lawyers, M/F alike the school years and the first few years out can be incredibly stressful regardless of what kind of $$$ you make. Unfortunately I am one of the guys girls like to talk to, either that or I am an idiot (I severly lean toward the later) and I have found that deep down they all want to find the right guy (or in some cases girl) and have a seperate rewarding family/social life. Lets face it.....no matter how smart/succesful a female is there are certain social vestiges of the man being the breadwinner/career driven force. Its also more common for an older man to date a younger woman. Is it fair? No, but it is "reality". There are a lot of female lawyers, men too (watch me get lambasted for this one, writing at 2AM after a few drinks never good) who are like wine.....really good now... ..but after a few years of mellowing out absolutely superb. It is all about balance...when I was in college I was $$ driven so i started the eBay store.....I had thousands of dollars (Which was a ton to a college kid) and little social life . Right now I am young, I know as a lawyer I can make a decent wage and as a 6' 26 yr olf NY male I only expect my life to get better. Two weeks ago I was manic, no job offers, no call backs no nothing. In the span of two weeks everything started looking up. Find a law gal at such a time, many will be smart, fun, engaging etc. and well worth the effort of getting to know.

I stared at that post for a moment, and thought I saw "A2M" about 3/4 of the way through. Which piqued my interest for another moment. But then I realized my mistake, and moved on.
