Melee guys have to be in the middle of the action to do damage and build ability points, but they are also exposed to the most harm that way. Consequently, any barbarian or monk is naturally going to want to get into a crowd and do as much damage in as short a period of time as possible. It is not an option to sit on the sidelines and shoot laser beams. And that's what the demon hunters and wizards do. Both tend to play a longer game by chipping away at monsters from a safe distance. Even worse for the melee members of their party, they often retreat from battle entirely until things thin out. In other words, ranged classes tend to hold out when playing with melee classes, leaving the latter to get slaughtered as they face two to four times as many monsters as they normally would.
When playing with strangers, I've done the best with other monks or barbarians, as we have a shared interest in ending battles as fast as possible. It also works quite well when I play with friends who are ranged classes, as they don't just leave me to die.
Ideally, everyone would cooperate and complement each other's abilities. A monk or barbarian should head into the crowds first and weaken them by 60-90% within seconds, expecting that the ranged guys will finish the job once they get there.
That's called tanking. tongue.gif

DH abuse smoke screen, wizards abuse energy shield. Everyone else is screwed! I'm getting tired of farming Act 1. Best fun came in late NM/early Hell when characters could actually go all out DPS.

As a monk, every single ability I take is now defensive.

I know the feeling all too well. 4x heals excluding potions. Only damage dealer is FoT with Quickening. :'(

You can exploit Fot with Quickening. With sweeping winds up, any attacks made during your FoT animation will proc the additional 15 spirit. I cheesed my way through inferno act 1 the first time using this exploit. Spammed MoH: BOP 3 times a second.

I knew there was a bug with FoT/Quickening but I didn't know the specifics of that! Thanks...should make getting through Act 3 Hell a lot easier. The Elite hurt so much.

Had to tune it down a bit since I'm going for low hp/high regen/energy shield, and I could only find the regen on some things that hampered my int. frown.gif

I got kinda sick of Diablo playing my DH in Act 2 on Nightmare. I guess it was being paired more with shitty groups than anything, either they just tried to do corpse runs off of each other to get to the end or they just went way too damn slow or they had no idea what to do.

So I was wrong, I made it up to 38 already. Now check on what happened with this new helm I bought. Helm and Square Amethyst were like 3750 gold total and now I got an insane health boost.

280
adds 1200+ health

It's actually almost kind of cheap buying stuff on there at this stage of the game. Square gems in every socket because they're like 4k to buy (10-13 for flawless square, then it gets expensive). Incidentally, if you have your gem dude trained up, you could conceivably make a bunch of money buying flawless gems, combining them until you get perfect square gems, then listing them for a large markup. Assuming those things actually do sell for the ~100k asking price. I seem to recall you can get flawless gems for about 200 bucks.

I feel like in harder difficulties it will be pretty necessary to survive. Have been told that inferno is almost unplayable as a wizard without bumping vit and abusing energy shield. Which really takes all the fun out of it, if you're absolutely required to use a particular build just to not get your ass kicked. But hey, I'm not there yet and might never make it that far. Never did in D2.

Lol at only 10k HP.

So there is something similar to mana shield i.e. energy shield

In that case...Wizard class only needs to bump up their energy (mana pool) and let energy shield consume most of the damage.
Essentially you want as high intelligence as possible on all items including sockets for a magician spell-caster.

Lvl60 sounds so siiiick icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif
