Took down big-D earlier today on Normal. It was a little tough and took me more tries than I would like with my level 31 DH. Problem was that I have shunned a lot of health gear for damage and only have a little over 2000 hp. It seemed that getting caught in his bone cages hit me for about 2000 so unless I was at full health and had a potion charged, I was dead if I got caught in one of those. Also, losing my healbot Templar was a dick move.
Anyone know how he is on fire resistance? I sort of assumed fire based attacks would be less helpful.
I shuffled around some skills ended up going with:
The ability that lets you take 30% of your damage as health for 3 seconds (to make up for the potion cooldowns and lack of trash mobs to generate health globes)
Strafe (with full speed rune)
Left: guided arrow but downgraded the rune from the one that splits the arrow to the one that increases piercing to get multiple hits on him.
right: the single knife throw with the rune that makes you bleed for additional physical damage. (was too risky to stop long enough to throw off a big rapid fire).
Passives were the one that bumps your hatred and gives you hatred/discipline bonus for health globes, the one that gives 20% damage if you are 10 yards away, and the one that regenerates health if you haven't been hit in 3 seconds.
Then my strategy was to just keep moving. I could stay out of harm for long enough periods to get good heath regen and full seed strafe let me keep attacking while moving around. If he is off screen, I use the mini-map to know where he is and lob guided arrows in his direction (or throw knives if I know exactly where he is and can see his health bar dropping). If I catch him with a good caltrops, it is time to pop the 30% health regen ability and dump as many knives into him as possible.
Was still a pretty tough fight, but this setup let me keep moving and I was eventually able to knock him down. Would have been a piece of cake with a bit more health and maybe some different item attributes (or another player since it would be pretty easy to stay alive and revive people) but I didn't want to take the time to find new items or swap out gems.
