not too taxing; my friend is playing on a 1.8ghz laptop with an gt*8400 and 3gb of ram and it runs. my system is 2.4ghz) with 4g of ram and a gtx250 and its smooth on the highest settings. like someone else said $500 should cover you just fine.

its an option in the gameplay tab of the menu. it allows you to assign skills from any category to any button; eg. you can assign a "focus" or "technique" monk skill to your rightclick instead of having it stuck on your keyboard. this lets you use multiple skills from the same tree.

Yeah, its gonna be great when I get home and turn it on. It would be a little weird to have attack skills on a keyboard button (since they target whatever your mouse is on) but putting it on an extra mouse button will be great.

The gaming mouse might also make they DH traps a little easier to use. I had trouble decoupling the idea of a keyboard command with the trap being placed not where I stand but where my mouse is pointing.

Elective mode will not allow you to re-assign the actual keys or buttons used in the game. You are still stuck with the numbers 1-4 on the keyboard and right/left clicking on the mouse. It just means you can assign any action you like to any of those buttons, regardless of category.

Before now, I was playing on a thinkpad T400 and it was playable in some areas but got really rough in others (but it was below minimum specs). A macbook that meets the published minimums should be playable with low effects and low resolution...so it might be worth trying it on the machine you've got.
This may be true, but if he aims for other games, too, and wants to play games that will release, he should spend 500$++.

I've died too often so far, and I'm just a level 15 sorc.

You can do it in the key binding options.

Anyone else playing as a Monk? I found the class to be near bulletproof through the second act--just dash into the center of a horde and, lickety-split, everything dies.

Things got a lot harder in the third act, though.

You can rebind keys in the options somewhere so you can have both 1 *and* mouse4 operate the same function.
And if for some reason that doesn't work, one trick I have used in many games (maybe I even used it on the f-key hotkeys in d2) is to just change the options in the mouse drivers. Bind mouse4 and mouse5 to a normal keypress and then the game can't tell if you are pressing 1 or the button.

Who, me?

Okay stuff. In terms of monk-specific weapons, there is nothing but garbage. I think I've picked up three magical fist weapons since I started playing. But, I dual-wield with my monk anyway. One-handed swords seemed rare in Act 1, but become a bit more common in Act 2. Now I am picking up lots of socketed items to put gems into.
