Diablo III / 3 - Page 95

arpg with a heavy trinket element

So first night playing with 1.03 - overall the game does feel slower and champion packs take a lot longer to kill but overall its nice not to die on every hit from trash enemies. The repair costs, on the other hand, are obnoxious. My guess is that they revert back to pre-patch or just penalize for death. I'm not a melee class but they are getting crushed over the cost. I think I may stick to act 1 runs now that you can occassionally get lvl 63 gear on drops. Run 200% MF and your nearly at the standard percentages for act 3/4.

I love the new patch! Act 2 has become a joke. I've only met one champion pack that I had to kite so far; the rest, I just sit and hack away. The game has become more fun when you get 1-4 rares from each pack after a 5 stack. Love this. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I'm on inferno belial as a wizard. Made it to about 60% in the final phase solo. Eventually got cornered and ran out of space to run. I tried tweaking my build to a more survival oriented one but then my DPS was too low (damn you attack speed nerf) and got overwhelmed by naga adds. Hmmm.

Maybe just need more resist and vit on my gear. Too bad I'm on that poverty time. might buy some gold, it's down to like $3.75/million.

Patch gives me mixed feelings. The drop rates have been democratized. Good for the game but worse for me.

Pre-patch drop rate for ilvl63 in act 3/4 was ~20%. It is now 8%. Farming act 3 is now a waste of time, as I still die occasionally and it takes much longer.

I can do a major clear of act 2 in about 1hr 15min with 150 mf (225 with 5NV). I still prefer pre-patch rates, where the difficulty of act 3 was rewarded with very high ilvl gear. I don't like having to junk 3 bags worth of gear after an hour...

The game is also just slower with the IAS nerf. Even dual wielding, I'm at 1.8 APS. Need one more piece of gear to push it back to 2.0

I haven't tried act 2 but I guess I need to, especially if the snakemen have been nerfed. I think act 3 is still where its at if you can afford the repairs - I was getting some pretty nasty items after 5nv. Pair of Natayla's Soul was the highlight.

For my fellow DH's, I did a little math over the afternoon that should help you as you think about investing once you get to Inferno.

@1,600 dexerity without sharpshooter enabled:

A point of dex is worth 10 dps

A percentage point of ias is worth 188 DPS

A percentage point of crit chance is worth 92 DPS

A percentage point of crit dmg is worth 9 DPS (183 with sharpshooter)

A point of weapon dmg is worth 19 DPS

A point of +dmg (rings / amulets) is worth 27 DPS

_______________________________________

Given max single item values for the above the best use of your cash is upgrading in the following order:

weapon
dex
ias
crit dmg
+dmg
crit chance

With sharpshooter:

crit dmg
weapon
dex
ias
dmg+
crit chance

Crit chance and crit dmg also become better as you get more of each. With no additional crit dmg, each point of crit is roughly 0.5 point of IAS.

At 200% crit dmg, 1% crit is worth twice a point of IAS.

NM and hell are so fun. so many fun combos with the wizard without having to worry about being one-shotted. yeah, it won't last forever, but its certainly the best part of the game for me.

i just realized how poorly my monk has been geared - after now ensuring i have good, new gear every 5 levels with my wiz im surprised at how sloppy i was with itemization. i finally killed my first solo inferno pack with my monk last night lol.

Isn't this game like only a Diablo II with better graphics?

Is it worth buying?

Questions:

Do you guys have any rules of thumb for choosing a buyout price for your sales on the GAH? I'd rather not have to do a bunch of market research on every auction.

When did you hit level 60? My WD is at 51 in act 4 of nightmare mode.

Do things even get challenging before inferno? I've been rolling through so far, soloing. Hoping hell is tough without being unreasonable.

Better to buy the upper level gems or craft?

Buy gems. For some reason it's almost always a lot cheaper. I think it's because people are satisfied with 80% of what the spent to get the gem, if they need the gold fast.

The game doesn't get hard until inferno, where without the right gear you will get owned - even by white trash mobs. My weapon dmg was 550 entering inferno, needed to get to 750-800 to make act 1 manageable, 900+ for act 2, 3...

yeah, relatively speaking if normal is 1, nm is 3, and hell is 8, then inferno is 25. you could easily fit another difficulty level between hell and inferno. it is hard. i feel that a4 hell is the natural peak of effectiveness for your average joe who's spent a bit of money on the AH and found some half-decent items.

the difference in gear requirements and playstyle/skill choice is huge. once i adjusted to the playstyle, hell a4 was a relative breeze with fairly noob items. that turned into me not being able to solo the very first elite pack in a1 inferno. it is stupidly difficult and rage-inducing; that extra suffix on elite packs plus the hugely inflated health and damage values is punishing. arcane jailer desecrator just became arcane jailer desecrator shielding. doesn't sound horrible on paper until you realize how much everything hurts and how hard it is to kill stuff.

take a champ (blue) armaddon:
normal = 2.6k max life, 443 min dmg per hit
nm = 24k max life, 3.4k min dmg per hit
hell = 266k max life, 14k min. dmg per hit
inferno = 1975k max life, 170k min. dmg per hit.

this seems to scale fairly evenly until you consider you hit level 60 in hell. armaddons aren't even some of the most annoying monsters, but they can still be a pain - now consider in inferno they will have nearly 7.5 times the hp and 12 times the damage while you have stayed the same level. now consider something grief-inducing like a phase beast with inherent teleporting ability rolling something stupid like invulnerable minions, vortex, desecrator, jailer.

i was pretty cocky about d3 difficulty once i adjusted to hell. inferno was a very, very rude surprise.

act one was a breeze w/ my 600 mh dps.  but act 2, god damn i cant even kill a treasure goblin before it gated to its escape...
