jesus... how old is your computer?

i just moved from a 453dps 1h + offhand 20-90 with 350 int and 300 vit between them, to a 960dps 190int 2h xbow and base dps went up about 7k to nearly 21k. the 2h also has +1100 life when i kill opponents, so i'm rarely using healing potions anymore because trash mobs are regularly filling me up as i kill them 5-6 at a time. Wasn't having to do much kiting until now either but i've got that down and the act 1 champion packs haven't been so bad, so far... anyway... the readjustments have gone well. need to build some more resists now.

I have a laptop but it's good for being a laptop. I can get over 100 fps in counter strike source.

8 GB ram
intel CPU i7 2.00 ghz
radeon HD 6770M video card

You may just be progressing too slow. If you full-clear everything and redo parts (like playing multiplayer and you join a new game and have to start the quest from the beginning), you will probably be over-leveled for the areas you are in.

I started a second character and I made it through act 1 in maybe 3 hours tops...didn't level as much as I did my first time through and now it is definitely a bit harder. I think its just hard to balance difficulty and leveling perfectly...And they erred on the side of allowing people to finish Normal without haveing to back track and spend time grinding out levels.

so it finally starts to get tough in act 2 inferno... i only have 180 resist or something so i'm getting 2 shot with 20k hp. When i moved from a 1h to a 2h I lost 300 vit. need gear!

You need damage, vit/resall isn't going to save you in Act 3, let alone deeper into Act 2 when the invisible snakes pop up.

i have 600+ RES ALL and I still cannot start Act2 Inferno.

DPS is pitiful ~ 17k, which maybe the culprit

Ya that's why i had no qualms ditching my vit for the higher dps weapon. i need a 1200dps 2h with some int on it. i've bought 3 rares with +50 or higher +all resist. HP has suffered but it hasn't affected my ability to do butcher runs. i'm at about 23k unbuffed dps and 17k hp now but resists are up a bit finally. Upgrades are starting to get expensive. Nothing I really want under 500k.

Wizards should aim for enough mitigation to avoid getting 1 shot with force armor on. Once you have that, get some life regen and max DPS. That's really all you need to do.

You'll hit walls where more mitigation is needed. Rinse and repeat.

Conversely, wait for damage nerfs in 1.03.

^ I'm at about the same level. Have my eye on a few set items that I know would improve me significantly, but they're all going for around a million...

I don't know how people farm this game. I did 3 butcher runs and i'm bored out of my mind.

Don't waste your time when playing normal. You'll get better stuff faster by going through the content as fast as possible.

Run it with a friend, especially since they just nerfed monster damage in parties. I did a Siegebreaker run today with skitlets and a friend. Although I was running at 5fps at times, it was pretty fun. It was pretty damn cool seeing two monks sequentially kiting and healing each other at the same time. Dual Mantras with two mystic allys and Tyrael helping funnel champion packs into chokes is great!
