I don't think the world is coming to anything. It's always been like this.

I could go on and on about that piece of shit. Hilarious story though. Thanks for sharing.
As with all things, experiences differ.

Maybe cause I rooted the thing within a week of buying it and run a custom ROM with custom kernel. Battery life not great I admit but will get me through a call day where I spend the day on the phone talking with the ER, my attending and the interns on my team. Lowest battery I have gone home with is 13% after a 16 1/2 hour shift. But, guess what. I have an extra battery that I bought for $4 in my coat pocket just waiting to be swapped out should I need it. However, I haven't needed it since my intern year when I'd be pulling the 24 hour calls (+6 to finish up outstanding work = 30 hours shift). One of my coworkers also has the same phone and he always complains about the battery though.

So what exactly is fail? That my 2+ year old phone (correction - I previously stated it was 3 years old but it was released in June 2010) itself works perfectly fine for me? I'm pretty sure that despite still being a resident my bank account says I can afford $200 to upgrade my phone. Or, you know, I could put my $500 yearly allowance from my program toward it and get a new one "for free".

If I did have to choose something that does absolutely suck on this phone though, it would be the camera. Absolute shit for any pictures where there isn't perfect lighting.

That surprises me. In my experience there was a pretty significant improvement in the camera going even from the 4 to 4S. It was especially apparent when looking at the pics blown up on a regular computer screen.

The fail was your attempt to flame with that lame ass story. Hell you knew you were doing in the first sentence of your OP.

Great typical Android fan follow up though. I love people will bitch about not putting an icon in a random section of their screen but are not phased when they have to carry around extra batteries and re-program the damn thing to get it to work properly.

We can agree that experiences may differ but the feedback I received from the local Sprint store has me believing my experience is more the norm with EVO.

My point is to illustrate people like my friend who upgrade for no reason. Like JMRouse pointed out there are pluses to the new iPhone but despite the fact that my friend was going on about how much he loves his new, upgraded phone, the best he could come up with is that it's lighter? Seriously.

I knew I was gonna get "feedback" based on the fact that if you ever say anything bad or even with the remote connotation of negativity about Apple you end up getting flamed.

My answer to this is that at least I have the choice to do so when my colleagues were scrambling for chargers when we did those long shifts a couple years back. I had to carry a tiny battery whereas one of my workmates was lugging around a giant external battery pack with her.

Maybe. But at the same time, I didn't come in here saying that the Evo is the greatest phone ever. I said that it works for me. I've had no problems with my phone.

My fiancée's macbook charger conked out on her a few months ago. While researching it she found lots of reports of the same thing happening to other people. I guess the "feedback" she received (and shared with me) has me believing the experience "is more the norm with the macbook". Or, you know, it could just be that all electronics have problems. Nah, that would make too much sense. Let's just extrapolate that you had a problem and the one store employee said they had problems so the entire product line sucks. I'll do that next time someone tells me they had to take their phone to the Apple store cause it wouldn't turn on or charge. I've read about enough problems with them to make that assumption.

there was a big jump in camera tech between the 4 and the 4s. the only change between the 4s and the 5 is the f-stop level (better low light) and higher mega pixel. oh, and the speed, but that's chalked up to the processor and memory.

It's kind of silly how upset people get about other people's electronics. It's also kind of silly how hyped people get about their own electronics.

Internet fanboi dustups are great though. Before Apple vs Android there was Xbox vs Playstation, BMW vs Mercedes, etc. all of them as entertaining as hell

Back in the mid-90s nothing could beat linux fanbois vs. Windoz.

I was going to add Coca-Cola vs. Pepsi but let's be real... nobody actually prefers Pepsi.

I was thinking about how BMW and Apple remind me of each other. Both make products that are considered some of the best in the industry. Both have extremely loyal fans. Both use hyperbole in their marketing "it just works" and "ultimate driving machine." Both might annoy Pio the first few times he took one out for a test drive because he's used to how one of their biggest competitors do things. wink.gif

Hmmm as a Benz guy I'm wondering now if I should be questioning my enthusiasm for the iPhone.

Yes you should, it's inevitable
