Mainly price, but I find its lack of ports disturbing.(grins) For example, I can today get an Acer Iconia A500, dual core Tegra 2, 1G ram refurbished cheaper than a refurb iPad 1. HDMI out, USB, hell, it even has a VGA out I believe, although that's taking it a big far heh!

Good old-fashioned 3.5 inch 960 x 640 display. I want to punch this fanboy in the fucking throat. Never once has he acknowledged that a 4" screen would be an improvement. It's like he has to defend a 3.5" screen incase Apple doesn't make the move.

You can get an adapter for just about any port needed. If you ask me, it's better to connect tablets wireless anyways.

I wouldn't do an Android tablet. That's just me. The platform and apps are just not there. I tried several other platforms before I settled on the iPad. It really is the best tablet platform on the market. To the point, I worry about them becoming a monopoly in the space. Other platforms are just not selling that well. Hopefully Windows 8 changes this.



The guy is a raging fanboy sometimes, but I think he is largely right here. The iPhone is the best selling smartphone in the world. Apple does not really need to go any larger. It's not like they are hurting in sales.

I do think they will hit 4 inches this time, but not any larger. We disagree on this, but these Android phones are getting way to big these days. Apple would be stupid to get caught up in the screen size war. Better they keep focusing on usability and customer experience.

Apologies for this question but really don't know what to do. My brand new iPhone can't receive a damn call. I can receive text and even call from it but i can't call it.anyone know a solution???

Agree JMR, these Anrdoid phone sizes are ridiculous.

The iPhone size is perfect, I wouldn't want it any bigger. If I did want bigger, I'd buy a 7" tablet.

Anyway, I decided against a tablet right now of any size. As much as I want one, PDF reading is the only use I'd have for it. That's not enough to justify dropping any money something like that heh.

Take it to an Apple store. That's your best bet.


Should have got in on the Touchpads when they were sold for $99. Would have been perfect for the limited use you want out of it.

Yeah, unfortunately when I read about the Touchpads, they were already long sold out. The prices Touchpads are going for now....not worth it, may as well get a dedicated Android tablet and pay a few bucks more.

I'll revisit this once the Win8 slates come out later this year. Maybe they will cause a price drop on these Android and iOS tabs?

I considered just spending 99 bucks and getting a Chinese offbrand tablet, since I'd only be reading PDF on it anyway, but feh, you still need a halfway decent processor for the large sized documents I'd be reading. I tried loading some up into my dad's iPad2 and even then, flipping pages would get slow sometimes.

Disagree? I totally agree with you. As impressive as the One X is in some regards, it is impossible to use comfortably with one hand. (Unless you have really big hands.)

I think 4"- 4.3" is the perfect size for a smartphone screen. You could potentially do 4.5" but the phone would need to be mostly screen with little to no bezel.

If you read Gruber's recent tweets, he's basically saying that he expects the next iPhone to be the same width and height just with a 4" screen and a smaller top and bottom bezel. (If they go 4".) That would be a best case scenario IMO. I think the taller iPhone that has been mocked up is somewhat awkward looking. I think if Apple can fit a 4" screen on the current form factor, they will.

On a related Gruber note, it looks like he's ditched Dan Benjamin's ass. (I haven't listened I just noticed he's no longer on 5x5 and it appears he'll have a new co-host every week.) I always found Benjamin to be a big pussy BUT he wasn't overly annoying and I envision Gruber bringing on some insufferable fanboys at times.

I think the latest rumor is the most accurate to date. We are going to see a new iPhone this fall with the same width and height of the current iPhone but with a 4" screen (technically 3.95"). The top and bottom bezel's get thinner to accomodate said screen, but the same sized home button remains (just positoned lower). The questions that now remain are whether Apple will keep the flat glass backing, the stainless steel antenna, and what the camera will consist of. 4" and LTE appear to be a given at this point. Along with a Sept/Oct release.

I think it's likely accurate too, but it plays off my point that I have made a few times that these sites are all just regurgitating the same set of rumors. There is little in this rumor that was not already speculated before. It becomes an echo chamber among tech sites and blogs. Not saying that this makes them any less accurate, but it does remind me of last year's "iPhone 5" debacle.

Also, i'm more curious about the changes coming to iOS 6 then the next iPhone's hardware design. Surprised we have not seen more rumors on the new features coming to it as the announcement is not that far away. Apple seems to be doing a good job of keeping it all under wraps.

Every rumor has to be taken with a grain of salt. That's a given. But when reading an Apple rumor, you need to consider a few things. The source it's coming from. How plausible said rumor is, etc. It's certainly not an exact science, but I feel like I can tell when something appears to have a whiff of truth and when it appears to be a stretch.

While I can't say anything for sure of course, I just find it strange to think that Apple would increase the height of the current form factor, unless they were aiming for a significantly larger screen. Throwing a 4" screen on the current form factor appears to make a lot more sense than making the device taller.

Anyways, who knows. It's fun to speculate though.

Was a little hesitant to post this since something about it felt wrong at first, but it's all over the place. Possible leaked design of the next iPhone.

EDIT: Not sure I care for it, but felt the same way about the iPhone 4 when the stolen prototype ended up with Gizmodo. The finished product ended up looking nicer in person then I expected.

Hope that's not it, looks really ugly.
