To those of you not from the US, this is a coloquial idiosyncratic/street slang issue.

Idiosyncratically to some in the US, spook = Negro or Black.

This is a PC no-no!

I'm sure there are Spanish words that have slang meanings that I would have no idea of.

I didn't know that "Orca" meant a fattie. Is that it's literal translation?

I thought the word mayate meant a bug. Mexican people told me that was not what it meant to them.

so it does not mean a spy?

hardly a literal translation.... you call tubs of useless lard whales correct? orca is roughly the samething except we are using a more specific species for the point of reference. hell it i think the word stay the same in english the whales that are black and white are called orcas correct?

It can mean both. Probably more commonly used to mean "a spy". But it is also less commonly used in a derogatory sense toward black people, so I thought it was not the best choice of words.

About the "Orca" thing. I knew it had to do with whales but I didn't know that in colloquial Spanish it could mean a fattie.

Colloquial usage is often quite different than a school taught language.

Now, back to the case. I hope the 6 dear ladies are not diverting like this. I just read that if they do not come up with a verdict today, they can decide if they want to deliberate on a Sunday.

This is getting like the OJ verdict. A lot of people are waiting for the decision.

I would read "NSA spook" as "NSA spy" 100 times out of 100. But I'm not that sensitive.

Spook is a pretty uncommon slur I think. Even out of context with the NSA bit, it would be used much more often to mean a spy than a black person.

well I did reference the nsa in the original post so the intended meaning should be obvious. I did not mean to offend any negroes.

In fairness to DU (1) it's pretty explicitly an agitprop site to keep leftists appropriately riled up, not for sharing opposing ideas or debate (no different from Free Republic for the right), and (2) there are actually some regular posters there who are posting factually and accurately. They tend to be drowned out by the emotional rabble rousing that characterizes the site, but they are definitely there.

And if you want to see the dumbest people on both sides of the debate, check out the CNN comments. It's basically the Zimmerman lynch mob versus a bunch of crazy racists.

The suspense is killing me. I've never really understood how it takes juries so long to deliberate. I think we're headed for a mistrial.

I'm going to have to check out the FR site. I'm gonna guess that's the "freepers" the DU idiots keep referring to?

I have to say, to paraphrase Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets, the DU crowd is like Nameback...minus any sense of responsibility and reason.

Yeah I don't exactly know the timeline, but I think DU was basically designed as a mirror image of Freep. Whether by design or not, they are mirror images of each other. Freep is where a lot of the birther/lizard people stuff festers.

Just went there. Is it just me or is the layout really weird?

It just hasn't changed since like 1998.

It didn't take the OJ jury long to deliberate!

But Ito sealed that verdict and made the masses wait overnight. Despite a few select people ( including the OJ team ) knowing the verdict in advance.

IMO, the jury would have to deliberate more than 2 days for a hung jury to be accepted in this case, especially by Judge Nelson.

Is there some sort of Allen Charge that is given in cases like this?

Yeah I don't really know. I've never seen a hung jury before. I would imagine that in a case like this, where a second trial is unlikely, the judge would make them at least deliberate the better part of a week, but I couldn't say that with any authority.

As for Allen charges, I don't know if Florida uses them or not. I think they are mainly a Federal thing that most states don't use.

Apparently the jury has asked for some input on what manslaughter is. Zimmerman is getting 30 years.
