I wasn't aware we'd turned Brunswick over to Florida. I mean, they're welcome to it (on the condition that they give it back to Georgia if I ever return to Florida), but the fact that it had happened already is news to me.

Ataturk is correct. It's not uncommon to carry life insurance policies on your kid for an amount that would basically cover the cost of a funeral. I have one through work for my son, and I did it because it's extraordinarily cheap and one less thing to worry about should the unthinkable happen. I know my mother had something similar for my brother and me when we were kids, so it's not particularly new.
What I don't recall is how much coverage I could buy if I wanted more. I thought to check the docs for my new job to see what those say, but I realized they're all at the office. That said, I've never heard of anyone having more than just a bit.
