It is plausible that while there are no external signs of trauma, Zimmerman perhaps has evidence of a concussion from having his head slammed into the ground. I've been knocked out playing rugby before with no bruises from the head on tackle.
However, unless Zimmerman has been training with that pistol for years I have trouble wrapping my head around how he managed to bring the weapon to bear in the middle of having his head bounced onto concrete and not only manage to not empty the cartridge, but place two shots right into the kill zone.
I have a feeling that Trayvon may have disengaged after the initial tackle and ground + pound, turned around to see Zimmerman going for the pistol and tried to grab the gun, thereby setting off the chain of events.
