Belt loops for BlazerSuit™?

I'm having a casual suit made (patch pockets, Fresco) and I'm undecided on whether I should have belt loops or side adjusters. Now, I like the belt less look for a 'city' suit (say, something like a worsted pick-and-pick with flap pockets), but for a casual suit I feel that a belt may be more appropriate.

While I may use the coat as a separate, I'm pretty sure I'll only wear the pants as part of the full suit. And maybe I should note that I have no problems with pants sliding down without a belt, be they jean pants or office pants.

So, those of you with BlazerSuits , SwizzArmySuits , etc, what would you recommend?

I had something similar made about a month ago; I'm currently awaiting its arrival.

I decided on beltless, as I like the clean lines of a suit worn without a belt.

It's very subjective though.

I have none of those types of suits, but would still recommend side adjusters. If anything, it's certainly more convenient.

I figured I'd rarely wear blue pants alone and so got tabs.

Get two pants, one configured each way. Makes the BlazerSuit even more versatile, especially for traveling.

If you're wearing it without belt loops/beltless a side tabs would be good as a substitute.

have the side adjusters installed.
then have your tailor make a set of loops.
and then place them in a little plastic bag.
just in case.

I think getting two pairs of trousers is a good idea generally ... but I tend to wear trousers harder than coats.

As for the SwizzArmySuit , it just struck me that it may have been a mistake to mention it here, as that was actually more of a 'city' suit, with a coat that transformed into a Blazer (swappeable buttons), so not really an example of a casual suit which is what I'm asking about here.

I can't stand self supporting trousers and IME they never self support anyway. Either brace tops or loops for me and blazer suit really demands belt loops.

Side adjustors are mostly decorative unless they are used on pants cut to be worn with suspenders, but also anticipated to be worn without. In the latter, the side adjustors (or sometimes a single back adjustor) can winch in the pants so they don't fall down as much.

Side adjustors placed square on the waistband tend to work poorly. If you get them, ask them to be placed centered on the seam between the waistband and the rest of the pants (a moot point if you have a Hollywood waist.) Plus, there is a lot of lousy buckle hardware out.

If the pants of the suit are in a color, shade, pattern and texture that allows them to be worn separately with odd jackets or on their own casually, belt loops make a lot of sense.

The main issue with belted pants in suit is to try to wear a thin buckle and strap (thick buckles can disturb the line). Depending on the cut of the jacket and pants, you might also risk buckle bling showing underneath the buttoning point. This has recently become more of a danger because of the combination of high buttoning points, low rise pants, and cut away fronts that are popular.

My recomendation for you? Belt loops.

So, in your case where it's either bracers or a belt, you'd go with the belt for a BlazerSuit. But if you really didn't *need* the added support, would you still say that a belt was preferable for a casual suit (my gut kinda tells me it is)? If it was a purely cosmetic consideration?

on edit: F.C., thanks for your insights on side adjusters. I'm pretty sure I won't need either a belt or adjusters to have the pants stay in place, as I don't need either with my other pants, so it's back to being a cosmetic consideration.

Of course, the point about the versatlity of pants with belt loops is well noted and will probably be the deciding factor.

So, any recommendations for thin buckled belts?

I have a feeling that the couple of styles I have from Equus are too bulky...
