Great episode.

Best episode of the season tonight and quite possibly Pete's signature episode in the series. One of the best episodes not centering on Don. Anyone notice that Lane was wearing a BB Regent suit?

BUT the best bit for me was Lane kicking Campbell's ass - very British - duke's up old chap.

Meh. I didn't get too into it, but it was a step up. Next week's episode looks pretty good.

Great episode indeed! Roger had some great lines,the fight was a bit awkward but nice to have Lane grow a set, and I really liked that the episode focused on Pete and the changes his character is going through.

Oh, and it was great not having that new guy in the episode, the one that Peggy hates.

I don't mean to be a dick but how can you tell? I find Mad Men previews to be totally inscrutable.

Excellent episode. It was funny, it had some new character insights, set up a few new plot lines, and let's face it...outside of the riding lawnmower and foot incident, the fight had to be the single best office scene in the series.

Also, as "Handsome" put his hand up under the chippie's skirt, and Pete looked on through his battered face, all I could think of was Manton talking about PUA theory.

Would agree, best episode of the season, in fact the only good episode of the season.

Interesting observation above of Pete becoming Don.

I thought the Ken Cosgrove angle was excellent, and the story narrated at the end was just fantastic. "The Man with the Miniature Orchestra", very well crafted, especially with the overlay of the music with the same tone it has from one of those cabinet stereos.

Funny, there was one of those in my house when I was very young. I used to actually try and peer thru the grill looking for the musicians, but it was too dense and I couldnt see. So I would listen and imagine them in there.

Pete is not becoming Don. Pete wishes he could become Don but that closing scene i described above should indicate Pete has realized his inability to become Don. Roger said to Don at the whorehouse, "Even here you do better than us" or something to that effect indicating Don's continued alpha status. Peter can't even close with a highschool girl and displays every bit of his beta nature at driving school. Also, Don would not have pissed off Lane in the way Peter did ("He thinks you're a homo") and this demonstrates Peter's clumsy way of trying to assert himself.

I think this might have been the turning point for Peter and his ever increasing hubris.

It's funny to watch Lane in Mad Men if you are also a Fringe Fan since he is on that show right now as the main villain they are after.

Also, Ken's wife seems to be quite a bit older than him, no?

Funny, how in the first episode I considered Pete to be the up and comer. But it turns out he's just the same sleeze bag from season 1 but with a young family. Episode also made me see Don in a new light. It also confirmed for me that the business side of the show (whether it's pitches, or office politics) are its strong suit. Don't mind the family/personal side but sometimes I feel it drags - like who really cares about Sally Draper? I don't care that she wants to know about the serial killer on the loose. Etc. Anyway, a lot of fun as it's been a while since I've felt the need to replay certain parts of a MM episode.

Well, I brought up Chekhov's gun earlier in this thread, and I was totally expecting it to be used last night. In the scene after Pete got his ass handed to him where he was sitting in his dark office, I totally expected him to grab the rifle and go for Lane.
