Matching colours

How do you match colours between what you are wearing? For example, what colour(s) of tie would you wear with a red shirt, blue shirt or whatever?

I'm guessing that matters are complicated by patterns on either the shirt or the tie, and the complexity therein, btw.

appolyon suggests some color tools here

You just have to decide if you want high/low contrast etc. Take a look here also

It's not an end-all-be-all for colour theory, but it's a good starting point.

Pick one dominant colour and then it'll give you ideas for complementing colours/accents according to the colour scheme that you choose.
