Advise on Hermes mens wallet - Page 4

You should also read Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Luster.  It gives an interesting and sometimes less than flattering view of what one gets when purchasing from several companies such as LV, Gucci, Prada, etc. 

 

As for the the experience someone had at an Hermes store, anyone can have good or bad experiences (with any brand).  My wife and I have had positive experiences at the Hermes stores in Boston and Las Vegas.  We had an experience at the LV store in Las Vegas where the sales people were all chatting among themselves, no one could be bothered to come and help us, and the store was empty!  They ignored us and my wife knew which bag she wanted.  So my wife and I left the store and bought the bag at another LV store closer to home.

 

Good and bad experiences can happen with any company.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thanks guys.  The cufflinks are from Cartier.  They use the tri-color gold (white, rose, yellow) theme for the loops around the bars.  I like the tri color theme because it goes with any color wrist watch.  The colored bars are semi precious stones and they are interchangeable.  I have bars in lapis, hematite (graphite color), tigers eye, and rhodochrosite (pink).  They also offered bars in gold, steel, clear crystal, onyx, mother of pearl and other matterials.  Cartier no longer makes these items.  However, Van Cleef & Arpels makes a nearly identical cufflink (although not tri color design), and their bars fit in my Cartier loops, so I can still get other color bars if I choose to.

I thought the OP was asking a reasonable question, some of the responses are a bit odd to say the least. I don't have any experience with Hermes wallets and so have no advice to give.

I have a stingray Kilgour wallet that I use everyday - I tend not to change wallets even for 'special' occasions, although I have a vintage (but also slightly fragile) croc Asprey long wallet that I used last time I wore black tie just because it's so slim.

OP, this forum is full of cheap young guys who are mostly white. They hate on Asians who can afford to buy new and expensive things. Look at what is posted on the sales boards. Run down shoes in Cordovan leather. These chunky Alden's are a favorite here.

They also have very strong group think. Look at the CBD thread. Most of these guys are trying to better their lives with clunky shoes and thrifty buys. Elitists who look down on others. Skinny guys who look for the fittest of slim fits - these are for fit guys like me!

It's a board. So lot's of haters.

I say Hermes makes fine leather goods. I would not go for a wallet, as I am happy with LV for now. Have you tried LV's Nomad and the other dark brown leather series?

Yes, I do post on several of the watch forums.  I don't have that many pairs of cufflinks, I have few from Cartier, a lovely set of rose gold cushion shaped cufflinks to go with my rose gold watches, and an older pair from Tiffany.  I will try to post some photos when I have more time.  Here are pix of 2 more Cartiers, interlockling Cs and their famous tri-color knots.

Actually you mentioning that book brings up a good point, and I think a point of this thread that we haven't talked enough about yet. I believe Dana notes that there's really only two brands in the whole industry whose quality lives up the name and that you could rate a 5.0/5.0: Hermès and Chanel. Since he's already looking at Hermès we can assume OP's decided that he wants a great wallet and is willing to spend a good amount on it. I think this begs two questions:

1. Is there another brand, at any price, that's quality is on par with Hermès that OP should seriously consider? (He's already said he does not live in an area where getting it custom is an option)
2. If the Hermès wallet truly isn't worth the money, why not? (i.e. it's going to wear out in 5 year anyways, poor customer support, etc.)

When I saw the pic I thought, "He probably has a Ferrari," not "He's probably a giant poser."
