I wouldn't have done that to that particular pair of tassels but the idea of moding the tassel is interesting. There is an AS Handgrade tassel I like that is suede w/ a grain tassel.

I've done it.

Have a pair of TF loafers that had the tassels arranged in a bow.

I took them to a shoe repair place which was able to open up the shoe and arrange the tassels in the more traditional manner.
