Am strongly considering ordering an MTO pair of Dark Oak Winchelseas as a Birthday present to myself.

If one has to go MTO to get the style and width one wants anyways, what are folks' thoughts on split sized pairs? My feet are shaped extremely similarly, but are a half size difference. I find I always have to sacrifice the fit of one shoe for the other. Especially for loafers and other slip-ons, which I find tongue pads and other additions always inevitable.

If there is no price difference or a minimal one, would not make best sense to get a split sized pair to ensure the best fit for both feet? Isn't it the same principle that bespoke makers follow?

Maybe I’m missing something but why wouldn’t you do this?

Sounds good in theory and I'd probably do it if I tried different sizes / widths and was sure which fits each foot the best. I believe with MTO, that EG can also make adjustments such as adding a fitting piece to give more room in certain areas if needed and also raising arch support which may reduce gaping on the sides that results from flat feet.
Sadly, I live in Canada, which is a No Man's Land for fine footwear, so extensive try-ons aren't an option and neither would such complex fitting adjustments since there are no EG stockists here.

However, I recently picked up an outlet pair of EG for RLPL Barksdales, which are in a narrow D in the same last as the Winchelsea. The fit is really great on my smaller foot, but a bit too tight on my bigger foot. I feel like a half-size up on the bigger foot would be a great fit. (Buying for my larger foot always results in an even worse fit for the smaller foot.)
Maybe I’m missing something but why wouldn’t you do this?
I don't know? You never really see people talk about it here. Maybe people think a split sized pair looks bad or weird? Maybe it is just me, but if I am going to pay EG prices for shoes, I want an optimal fit since I would be buying them as an investment to be worn for decade(s).

Agree with this. If it were me and split sizes gave the best fit, I would go for it.

I think I've seen G&G do it, but no personal experience so will stand to be corrected on that.

They specifically told me they do it for a small additional fee.

I think not a lot of people really need different sizes because the differences between feet are not as meaningful, or they haven't given it much thought.

In any case, it sound like you have explored the possibility enough (and the RLPL pair on the same last certainly helped on this), that going ahead is likely going to be a successful strategy. I'd go ahead if I were you.

I don't think anyone would notice a 1/2 size difference in a shoe. If you are going to do an MTO why not request any tweaks that are ultimately helpful to you? Good luck.

Is anyone here good with editing pictures? If so, can someone please photoshop a stainless steel bezel on the new white-dial Speedy? Thank you!

Okay, Edward Green's recent price increases don't seem so bad when John Lobb just quoted me double the original retail price for a warehouse pair of new old stock Fencote loafers, said price also being more than what Edward Green quoted me for the pair of MTO Winchelsea I've mentioned in here.

Do your whiskey shell Galways fit any different than non-Galways?

My shell Aldens tend to be a little looser than the same shoe in suede or calf. I was wondering if that was true of EGs as well.
I don't notice any difference with this Galway. However my shell Ambleside on 202 fits slightly looser than my calf Galways on 202. The Ambleside is a different pattern though, so perhaps not directly comparable.
