^^^ I think the 82 is the narrowest of all those lasts.

Lovely shoes guys!
Is the Galway available as RTW? Or are they MTO only?

Those Galways were a regular MTO purchase every year by myself and my dad before me and grandfather before him, dating back long before I was born.

EG will refuse to make any more of them. They will only make the standard RTW Galway - Meh, I'll pass thanks - EG are slowly declining into a carbon copy of C&J.

Fully lined Galways in the sleekest last with double leather sole together with a second pair in the M64 and the toughest sole (these days the Ridgeway ) has been an annual tradition from my family for as long as I can remember, but that was during the good old days when EG was a prestigious shoe maker, which they no longer really are any more.

The pair pictured could only be bought after a MAJOR war with almost the entire rude compliment of EG reps and I very much doubt they will ever make another pair again.

Just another sign of a dying tradition and the slow decline of another great shoe maker.

I know Skyvalet1 used to offer them in this combination, but Skyvalet1 has suddenly reduced their exposure to EG quite significantly over the past 4-6 months. They obviously had a little fall out with the "Dragon".

I find G & G fills the hole left behind by EG quite well though, so it is no real sweat.

We still have one last final order with EG for a pair of Cardovan Sandringham with double leather soles. And even this order, which was reasonably frequent, EG refused to do it any way other than as a Top Drawer and the only reason we went ahead and ordered them at such a ridiculous price was because these will probably be the last shoes Grand Dad will ever buy.

I grew up with EG and so it is real sad to see them go this way.

Still, they are a fantastic pair of boots, well worth owning, and if you can convince G&G or Lobb of St James to make you a pair, you will find these to be the most pleasurable boots to own.

Interesting - my feeling was that the 202 is a bit roomier than the 82 / 888 which are similar apart from the toe shape.
I've tried only one pair in 202 and one in 82, and own 888, all in one size UK9,5/10e. Mine fits me well, others didn't.

This is the pair I tried in 202 (if I remember right)

and this is the pair in 82

202 is definitely a little roomier in the toe box.

May I ask you, what is the Galway last - 888 or 82?
I found on ebay the one in 888

and here is a Galay in 82 last from Axels's

Is it's normal that one model is produced in 2 lasts?

Anyone know how much EG factory irregulars cost? Do they sell them if stores also like C&J?

Some retailers, such as RL, Leffot, and Leather Soul special order specific models made to their own specs. Alterations include non standard welts, lasts, and leathers. There are very few EG models that come stock from the company on 2 different lasts. The Chelsea is one of them.

Yes, those look like 888 and 82. The 888 will be a MTO but the 82 could be a RTW depending on the retailer. You will notice though that neither is fully lined. 888 needs to be fully lined because 888 is typically a last for a city shoe.

The 888 on eBay are a "B" which is REAL narrow - probably the reason they are up for sale.

Rather get a pair from Edwrads of Manchester. Speak to Mark Firth or Craig and get them to arrange a pair for you in your proper width. Probably work out the same price or even cheaper. PM me if you are serious about a pair and and I might get you a corporate discount.

Looks like neither of those two boots has the full double sole, at best you will find the "HAF" sole, which is not bad.\

Yup, they do. Rare, but they are available.

Ring Helen on int'l +44 (0) 1 60462-6880.

Be nice to Helen, she prefers to sell only to local visitors, and she knows her stuff because she has been with EG for more than 30 years already

Unlike C&J, the seconds, samples and the like are sold only through the EG factory in Northampton. You need to make an appointment as the factory shop is not staffed full time.

Prices range from £250 - £450.
