The 32, 33 and 201 were standard in the 1980s - probably available via MTO now, I think.

You’re forgetting the 88 (John Hlustik: “the Great 88”) a kind of metrosexual last which couldn’t quite decide whether it was round or square. The 88 was quite short, subsequently the last got redesigned and lengthened to become the 808. Initially solely reserved for the (then)“Top Drawer” range the last became quite a favourite with RLPL. According to Tony G, the 808 had fitting problems that is the reason, why he designed the 888 in the early 2000s, as a direct descendent of 88 and 808.

Hi Bengal - thanks for the info. The sketches are great.

I didnt forget it; unfortunately, I dont own a pair :brick:. I'm missing the 808 as well. I was just referring to the lasts that I have.

The 88 looks nice - I think Foster& Sons used it quite a bit, no?

Have you ever seen the 184 on a non-loafer? I wonder how that might look . . .

With the 202 advertised as 'classic English' and 888 & 82 more contemporary, besides the actual toe shape, are the 888 & 82 longer then the 202? Just curious because I don't have any 202 for comparison.

I think the 888 is definitely more elongated than the 202, but not as wide or roomy beyond the toe box. The 82 comes across as "stubby" to me (in a nice way), but its somewhere between the stubbiness of the 202 and the more refined toe of the 888. It seems to have muted characteristics of both the 202 and 888, IMO.

Thanks for that description. Very helpful for me. I actually like the 82 although I own more 888... most of the EG I run into here in NYC are on the 888.

Yes, I think RL is going strictly 888 now at 72nd Street. Although the Dover Boot on sale recently was a throwback to the 89, which I like if you size down by 1/2.

I think Brooks Brothers is also only stocking 888.

Oh yes, I did see that. Would have picked it up but the D width is too narrow for me. I think Saks may have 1 on the 82 but there were only 4 or 5 styles on hand.

My gf suggested we visit London soon and I suggested that we also should go to Northampton while we're there. She prompted said "no, you go to Northampton... I'll find something else to do." :fonz:

I think your girlfriend is spot on regarding Northampton. I went 2 or 3 times when I visited my brother-in-law Oxford - the ride was about an hour. My wife, brother in law and his wife wanted to come, so we went to C&J. They detested the ride and while they enjyed the factory and museum, lets just say they werent impressed with the town. I went back myself and spent the day by myself. Enjoyed every second of it without all of the whining :hide:

I got the strange feeling that my brother-in-law was worried for my safety strolling around Northampton alone. England strikes me as a safe enough place as long as you renounce any potentially problematic football allegiances.
