That's not too bad. Last time I was at C&J they quoted around $200 for benchgrade.

Yeah the general rule amongst Northampton makers has always been to charge around a third of the price of the shoes for a recraft. That's why I say I'm not sure about the figure I quoted you.

Haha if I had that many works of art I'd be tempted to not wear them as well... thankfully I don't have that problem!
On another note, I am picking up my first pair of EGs - Dark Oak Dovers, any pointers for a soon-to-be-graduate? I know a rubber topsole/topy is blasphemy to some degree, but what are your thoughts on actually getting this done? I really want to extend the life of the soles. I'd also appreciate any other pointers regarding EG care :)

I have probably 1/4 of my shoes with partial rubber soles or sole guards. Typically wear those on rainy days. For me, 'blasphemy' is too strong but I do prefer leather soles. Best advice for the soles not to wear out too quickly is avoiding getting them soaked. Walking a block where the pavement is one thing but soles that get soaked can be a problem. Hence my earlier question about re-soling :)

Saw these in the Mansion today and was REALLY tempted. Would have picked them up if the SA actually took the time from talking to his buddy and to provide service. :cloud:

Those are the Newman right?

Cross-post with Recent Purchases: the Cucinelli overnight bag that I picked up with RLPL Ranell by EG. The bag's leather is a pretty good match with the burnished portions of EG's edwardian antique.
