They're veldts, aren't they? Same last as the Dundee etc.

I posted a few pics ages ago of a vintage EG veldt boot, also made for the same retailer back in the day - they were able to identify them as EG and then EG subsequently confirmed this. The retailers themselves have, over the years, sold rebadged shoes by a number of English makers including EG before they went all refined on us. They currently stock C&J amongst other brands.

For those with who own the Galways on the 82, does it fit the same way as other shoes/boots on the 82? I wonder if the Galway, considered a country boot, is fit differently (or looser) because of this.

Thank you, and yes they are black/slate, I have a pair of Canterburys in black/cloud on order, but they won't be in for a few months.

Fit is the same, for me.

Galway question:

Does anyone have issues with the heel cup being too wide on the 82E last?  I feel like my heel has very little to hold onto when I walk, and absent the lacing, my heel would step out of the shoe.

Before you say I need to size down, I wear 9.5D Alden Barrie, 10D most AE lasts, and my Galways are 9.5/10E, which seems like it should be the right size, and my forefoot width and overall length seem great -- it's just that the heel area seems really lacking in any support.  Anyone else experience and/or have a remedy for this?

Thanks

Same sizes for me, and I do tend to wear thicker socks with my 9.5UK 82 last Galway. I recently returned an 82 last shoe in my Galway size...just too much room. I may need a 9UK EG shoe, but I don't think I'd go that small in EG boots.

^ Thanks so much for the quick reply.  WIll try thicker socks, though I'm not sure it will help me feel more heel "cuppage."

I am surprised to see such a wide and shallow heel cup.  The shallowness (lack of heel cup height) is where it really bugs for me.

That makes you and me both. My right foot is the only one that moves. I think once they break in a bit more that will be less. I think also because the shaft on mine is suede it will give a bit more but will break a bit quicker.

I wore them with some jeans and some cords and man do they look fantastic. Definitely a great boot

I followed your logic except for this one sentence.  Can you please clarify what you mean here?  My thought is that a suede shaft, like mine and yours both, lends to the lack of overall heel support, rather than allow for eventual betterment.

I have to size up on the 82 last but do not have this much of a problem, yes there is a slight bit of more room at the heel end but does not bother me too much, my Galway on the 202 last does not have that problem.

I find exactly the same, width in the foot and length in thr foot is perfect but could I pull of an SWD and leave thr laces undone, splay the boots wide open and wear them? No, the heel cup as you say doesn't "stick" to my heel but once the laces are tightened they don't move and are an incredibly comfortable pair of boots to wear
