As you can imagine we have a lot of snow in Stockholm and it stays for 3-4 months, in best case it's solid ice but worst is the slush with salt in it, the stress on the leather is significant. I use pig skin boots or grain boots for these days because although I take good care of my boots there is always some superficial damage done to them. I find that it does not become as apparent with a grained or textured material. But we have an extreme climate, I'm guessing you guys don't have to put your shoes through the same kind of strain that I have to.
