I'm about to pull the trigger on a new pair of dark oak EG oxfords in 82 last.
I want something I can wear with everything from a suit to jeans..which is sort of difficult to do, I think.

I've narrowed it down to the Malvern (classic wingtip) and the Canterbury (u-throat captoe, no medallion).

Malvern:

Canterbury (wrong last and color):

What are your thoughts? Thinking the Malvern might be too conventional, not formal enough for a suit and that the Canterbury is a bit more interesting. At the same time, Malvern might be much better for more casual wear.

Also wondering if a U-throat like the Canterbury will make my feet look too long (I'm an 11).

Thank you

I like the Malvern.

C: Both the Malvern and Canterbury

Personally think both go well with suits but might not be as versatile with jeans. I do wear bals with jeans but very infrequently.

I like the Malvern because I'm partial towards wingtips. However, I just picked up a pair of AS' Moores which are almost exactly like the Canterbury so I guess I'm not that partial! smile.gif

Is one of them "technically" more formal?

Canterbury is a quarter brogue since it's only a punched straight cap with no medallion, while Malvern is a full brogue. So just based on the style of the two pairs, Canterbury is more formal.

However, it also depends on the colour of the shoe, from the photos, a tan coloured shoe is less formal then a dark brown. decisions.gif

In size 7/7,5 there were Dover 606 in loden suede, westminster 888 in slate grey, chelsea 82 in black with thames sole, sandrigham in loden and burgundy suede, oundle 888 in aniline brown calf, various loafers with cemented soles, etc.
And Malvern were also available in size 6,5/7 so I suggest you give them a call...icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif
