Hmm, depends on the style I think. I have the chelsea in DOAK on the 82 as well, and I think that version is great for more formal settings whereas the 202 is great for more casual versions like this make up - my thoughts at least smile.gif

For a black version I would definitely choose the 82 as well.

I have to disagree with the above. The 202 is classic, conservative, and beautiful. If anything, it's more conservative. The 82 is great as well and has that more aggressive, stylish flair. I think it's a mistake to call one more formal than the other. Perhaps the 82 is more versatile than the 202 because it's more chiseled toe could be worn with jeans and fashion-forward attire.

As a silly analogy, it is like comparing this:

202 for me all the way! Formal or casual. I am yet to find the last that appealing in any shoe maker, but that's just me of course.

The Vass F last sits somewhat between the 82 and 202, and it could be the jack of all trades, but master of none.

Agree on the 202. 202 all the way for most of the shoes if not all. I did find the chelsea on the 202 a little "stubby" but otherwise the 202 works well on all the shoes especially the wingtips and brogues.

This is the beauty about arguing about shoes and lasts. I actually think that the 82 is less versatile than the 202 for the same reasons. The more "aggressive, stylish flair" as you put it, makes it harder to work with denim, at least for me

@coldinboston, I was trying to be charitable, hence why I used the word perhaps. These things are mostly based on opinion, cultural context, and individual preference.

I'm happy, so long as EG continues to make the 202 and 82 available. Both have their advantages. But the fact that the 82 last sizing has been tweaked is not awesome.

@coldinboston Those nightshade's are outstanding. I was going to utilize that color in the boot I'm having made for my wedding.

@MrVenneri Thanks,

its really a nice color. I can see it working well for wedding attire as it would go well with most formal attire, and and its also something different than the typical burgundy

I liked it anough that I actually have another pair on order with the same color, so I highly recommend it. The color really comes alive under brighter lighting conditions.

The inverness also came with a different sole than I am used to on my EGs. It is more sculpted similar to the Lobb prestige Line. Not sure why these came with this sole compared to the typical sole I have on my other EGs. It was just a normal (level 2) MTO, not TD or anything

Congrats on the upcoming wedding. It is definitely fitting that you wear EG boots for it.

@smoothie1

Of course, agreed that it all depends on personal style and the context where the shoes are worn.

These conversation is the reason why most makers have multiple lasts.

the 82 has never really appealed to me, partly because it never fit as well.

The 202 especially with MTO extra instep is the best fitting last I have tried on RTW/MTO

Would love to see the comparison between the Nightshade and Burgundy with the recent leather batches. If someone there is lucky to have both, I would appreciate some daylight quick shots.

If @TtownMD really gets into fancy photography for his shoes, not only will he get top of the line photography equipment, he may even buy @RogerP footsteps to use as a back drop! However i am not sure if the latter is for sale...
