So, I couldn't wait any longer and pulled the trigger for the MTO I've been touting tor the last couple of moths: Alderley, Edwardian, 1,5 weight leather soles, natural colour sole edges. Should be sweet. Can't wait for autumn now, when I'll take delivery of both them and the zuglets

My only fear is I'll die before they arrive, and my girlfriend will resell them for what i told her they cost. Actually, that fear goes for most of my shoes :embar:

Congrats! I'm sure they will be amazing!

Sounds like you have some real exciting MTO's you'll be waiting for. I for one can't wait to see your Zugs.

Don't mention the war! I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep properly for the next 5 months or so of pure excitement. I guess my Alderleys will be done about the same time as my zuglets, so just imagine receiving TWO pairs of MTO at the same time… I mean :bounce2:

(yes, still new in this game)

Personally I find the waiting to be just a part of the fun. It just kind of extends the anticipation of getting something new that also happens to be pretty special. Generally speaking every time it's been more than worth the wait.

The wait also allows for plausable deniability as to the seriousness of my addiction.

@ Tifosi --- I believe that the original group preorder, per se, has closed, however, you can order it individually at the same price with about 5 months lead time, bc it is a Skoaktiebolaget standard model. I guess in theory they could set up other items this way too but I'm guessing that when the group order finished up they figured it easiest to just leave the option up with slightly modified text.

That said, I thought hard about ordering but couldn't figure out my size from learning my 82 last size. I heard I should use that size, then I heard I should size down, then I heard I should size up... Left me totally lost for an answer.

Thanks, Buda. looks like 5 months is the wait for all/many Galways. I've only seen one sizing rec saying to use the same size as 82. Dunno either. Pretty interested in that makeup.

@Buda. I'd love to do a Galway in all Almond CC. What you think?

Does anyone here specify, or for the resellers here have a customer who specifies, different sizes for left and right feet? I'm still having bad problems with heel slip on my left foot which, in fairness to EG, I get with all my shoes except for the one bespoke pair of Cleverleys that I own. My EGs are size 6.5D (UK) on the 888 last.

EG have been great in trying to help, they sent my shoes back to the factory to fit an extra piece of leather to the inside of the left heel but it was too thin for the purpose. I've now been experimenting with some very cheap leather that I ordered from ebay to add extra layers of leather to the inside of the left heel myself. I've stuck bits of the ebay leather that I've cut to size on top of the leather that EG put in using double-sided sticky tape(*). To get rid of my heel slip I seem to need two layers of my 1.6mm thick ebay leather on top of the thinner extra piece of leather that EG fitted in the factory. In total I'm building forward the inside of the back of the left shoe by about 3.5mm to get the left heel cup to make the same degree of contact with the back of my left heel as the right shoe does in its unmodified state.

From a bit of googling on shoe sizes it looks as if the length difference between a size 6 and 6.5 (UK) is about 5mm and not all of that would come off the back of the shoe, some would be a shortening of the toe box, so my guess is that going down to a size 6 would probably pull the back of the shoe about 3mm towards the back of my foot and maybe a bit more.

I think a size 6D would probably be too narrow for my left foot. Even on the 6.5D my left shoe needed breaking in before it stopped feeling as if it was squeezing my foot but presumably I can address that issue by going up a width on the left foot so I end up with a 6C on my left foot and a 6.5D on my right.

I can't imagine that having odd sized shoes as described above is going to look weird, in fact I suspect it wouldn't be noticeable at all. With a 5mm difference in length where at least 3mm of the difference is at the heel and so hidden underneath my trousers a 2mm difference in the length of the toe cap should be unnoticeable in real life, especially when people rarely stand with their feet exactly lined up with each other unless on military parade, and I'm guessing that widthwise a 6C and a 6.5D will be the same width to within perhaps a 1mm difference so even less noticeable than any length difference.

The above is for future orders of course, I'll need to either live with the heel slip or get the back of the heel built out more aggressively on my existing pair to fix that problem.

Any thoughts or first-hand experiences regarding different sized shoes?

- Julian

(*) My pieces are stuck in with sticky tape, the EG piece is sewed and glued.
