I would agree that any models containing berry suede are not appropriate for professional business dress. However, there are various burgundy antique calf models that are appropriate for such use, imo, particularly if the burgundy shade is on the darker end of the burgundy antique spectrum (or at least not "pinkish" as I have seen). I have the Beaulieu in burgundy antique and it works perfectly well with navy and gray suits.
I agree with you entirely, I have seen burgundy work well before with grey especially. I still think it only applies to some shades like you mention. I have also seen just as many burgundy shades which would not fit such a purpose.

Thanks for the info.

I'm wondering if the berry is different enough from the brown tones that the boot would be essentially interchangeable - a bit brighter of course.

And more poncified, CT?

Poncey as things get, but I do love the colours. Perfectly fine for business casual, I'd wear those in a heartbeat.

Right - I have the Farringdon in Burgundy Antique and the color, if not the shoe, is perfectly fine with suits. I think the Berry suede is getting everyone excited.

I've been thinking of stepping up my boot game. I have been obsessing over the Galway. I read through about half of this thread and see some familiar faces from the Alden forum. I have 6 pairs of Alden shell boots, but now I think I might go for quality over quantity from here on out. Am I looking at the right boot?

As good as it gets IMO. Tread lightly, the mto program can wreck havoc on ones budget.

Thanks, bespoken. I really want the dark oak with the country calf. That is the makeup that Leffot carries. I don't know if it is standard or not.

It is a common make up if there is such a thing. Although the usual stock make up has danite soles, I opted for leather. While I like to put my own stamp on things, there is no need to mess with perfection.

The Leffot version does have the dainite, which luckily, I like on this boot. How does the 82 last fit?

The Galway is a great country boot. The 82 is a dress last so it will probably fit like the Aberdeen (if we compare with Alden lasts) so thicker socks might not work as well. The shaft is unlined which makes it flexible around the ankle (but my preference is full lining though).

I guess if you're coming from Alden shell, the price up to EG's Galway, even MSRP, is not too bad. :)

I own north of 20 Aldens, about a third of which are shell boots, and I love the Galway more than any boot I own (though WT Ravello is a close runner-up).

As to the 82 last, for reference: I wear 9.5D Barrie, 10 D Plaza/Aberdeen, and my EG 82 size is 9.5/10E (UK/US). The 82 is sleek with a rounded toe - very modern and shapely, yet timeless in its simplicity.

Thanks, guys. I want these more every time I look at them. I need to get myself up to Leffot and take a look.

FYI CitiShoes has them with the mink suede shaft.
