I WRITE IN ALL CAPS

I once found a forum that is strictly about penmanship, I've seen some of the photos of their work, it is impeccable.

OMG, pretty soon you're going to be looking at men's clothing sites and conspicuously overdressing and eventually dotting your i's with hearts.

Does the book have any discussion of left handed writing?

I think one of the issues leading to my terrible penmanship has to do with learning to write left handed in school based off of teachings and exercises for right handed people and then bastardizing them in such a way as to avoid smearing the ink as I push my hand across.

I used to have very bad handwriting. Now I have very good handwriting. You don't need a book or to buy a special pen or start a new hobby. Just. Take. Your. Time. Writing. Each. Letter. Judge them individually. Is this clear? Is this legible? Is everything the same size? Take your time writing clearly and you will get better, forreal, and you'll get faster and it will become natural.

(I love good handwriting).

i've also found that writing larger helps too (with the shoulder thing expecially)

 

 

Just saw this thread and perked my interest, I've long sought to improve my handwriting (it's so poor that I struggle to read my own short notes on post-its). Thanks for the rec Rambo, ordered the book :)

 

I've experimented with writing in small caps, recommended by a friend who learned it a long time ago while studying engineering. The outcome was much neater, however it is way too strenuous on the arm to write long paragraphs that way.

When I went to law school I knew it would be useless for me to type notes in class because I would just transcribe rather than listening. So I bought a fountain pen (which can't write as fast as a ballpoint or rollberball simply because the ink flows a bit more slowly) and practiced for a couple months. My handwriting has improved, and I'm still able to write fast enough with my fountain pen to take all my notes in class by hand.

I like the Lamy brand's Safari model because it's lightweight and easy to refill with cartridges.

Having just gone through this process myself, i can say the main areas i needed to concentrate on where to slow down, write a bit larger and get rid of the death grip on the pen.  Personnally i found that switching to a fountain pen which requires a light touch to help with the last bit.

 

I don't know if it would help, however i found the resources at iampeth.com to be quite helpful, they're quite old school in their methods but i found the practice exercises quite helpful.  Also I ended up joining a forum centred around fountain pens, to gain some advice as to exactly what aspects of my writing needed help.

 

My handwriting used to look more like arabic than english but know it's gotten to the point where i even receive the odd compliment on it.

+1 on cursive italic.

This is what I use. With some practice, my handwriting went from completely illegible to decent.

It helps to practice with a fountain pen and an italic nib, but it's not necessary.

Looks interesting. I can read my handwriting but it is inconsistent and there's still much to improve. I may pick that book up. How's the last couple months been, Alter? Anyone else who got the book?
