The Official Carmina Sizing Thread - Page 41

^lol same.

Whoa, I didn't realize that there was an entire thread dedicated to this. So X-post from other threads then. My bad.

How does the Uetam last fit compared to EG, GG or C&J? If I take 9.5/10 in EG, should I then go for the same UK size in the Uetam - 9.5 UK?

Thanks!

Still trying to figure out the sizing for Carmina, and more specifically for the Rain last. The in-store measurement says I'm 12D, and I wear CJ 348 in 11 (even though they were very tight for a while) and Gaziano & Girling TG73 in 11.5. I also have a Meermin New Rey Last in 11 that took a very long time to break in and sometimes can feel tight.

Should I go with 11.5 in Rain? I have a Carmian Simpson wholecut that is 11 and I'm sure it could have been 11.5 to be comfortable, it still hurts when wearing it.

Thank you.

Rain last is roomier and more forgiving than both the Simpson last and the C&J 348 last. I'd say that if you usually take a UK11, then you should stick with that rather than going up half a size.

What if I need a 11.5 in Simpson? Which I do need since 11 is really tight now. My forefoot is 5 inches wide.

Should I still take 11 in Rain?

Gents,

I am planning to purchase a pair of Carmina Jumper Boot from Skoaktiebolaget, model 80184 in Oscar last, and I wish to know your opinion on sizing.

http://www.skoaktiebolaget.se/collections/carmina/products/carmina-jumper-boot

I had my feet measured professionally using a brannock device (in US sizes) and they are sized as follow:

Foot Length:  L7.5 R7
Arch Length:  L8    R9
Foot Width:    D      E

My feet were diagnosed to be very flat by a podiatrist and they roll in while walking.  In addition, I fit well in width in a pair of Loake Design Sharp in UK7 (very slightly loose after breaking in, roomy at the toes), even though after about 15 wears, the right shoe folds and dig into the top of my big toe, where my toe meet my foot.  I also fit well in a pair of Red Wing Beckman 9016 in UK 6 with thick socks.

Can the knowledgeable folks on style forum advice me the ideal size for these jumper boots for my feet?  The gentleman from Skoaktiebolaget recommended UK7 for me, but I wish to have a second opinion before purchasing.

Thank you very much.

Hi!

10.5 fits me perfect on the Meermin Hiro. So I was wondering if I should choose the same on the Carmina Robert last?

I do wear 45(11) in Churchs.

Any idea for the Carmina size?

Max

How does Simpson compare to the 348 last? The 348 was snug for me but broke in fine so I'm wondering if i can fit into the same size in Carmina's Simpson

Hey bud,

The Simpson has a similar instep to the 348. But length is different.

I wear 7.5UK in the 348 (tetbury) and an 8UK in the Simpson last.

^^ tetbury fits big for almost everybody. I do not believe it to be a TTS model or a good comparison for oxfords.

From what I've read the Uetam last is narrower than the Rain, especially in the forefoot. Can anyone confirm this?

I thought I'd provide an update on the sizing of my size 8 Simpson last. I wear Allen Edmonds 5-last in size 9D but I think I'm slightly smaller than a full 9D - closer to a 9C.

The Simpson last feels perfect in width, and there's plenty of room in the toebox. The only issue is that the instep is less than I expected. On the first couple of wears my heel came out of the shoe a bit as I walked. But this is getting better on the 4-5th wears.

Hello, would like to ask if I fit a Simpson last UK 6.5 comfortably, what size should I go for INCA/Randa/Forest/Rain?

Thanks guys!

Well, just got my first pair of carminas and I am blown away at their quality and construction. I picked up a pair of burgundy cap toes on the rain last from Steve at GFW (Ill get to how awesome he is in a sec). I wear a us7 in AEs on the 108 last (their Vernon shoe) so I went with a uk6.5 in the rain.

After wearing them for a bit around my house and analyzing the fit, I think they might be too big, specifically in the tongue area - I have a gap between the top my foot and the tongue of the shoe when ithe shoe is on and when I tie the shoe, I can tie the laces as tight as the shoe allows and the sides of the shoe where the lace eyelets are, touch each other and I still have room in that area (ie I can't lace them down any more). I think they call this having a low instep. On top of that, I've got a medium to high arched foot too lol. The length is good but my foot moves around a decent amount bc of this roomy "tongue area." The laces of my AEs seem to be higher up/closer to the ankle vs the carminas (if that makes any sense). Anyways, Has anyone experienced this? Should I size down and see how that works or is the rain last no good for me? I have plenty of room to size down so the length won't be an issue.

As for Steve, let's just say he is one of the best vendors I've dealt with, period. He is the first person I've really dealt with from these boards, so I don't have much experience here, but I'm an avid car nut that wrenches on his own cars so I've done business with hundreds of car vendors and Steve is one of the best!. His responses are quick, courteous, and friendly. In helping me analyze the fit, we exchanged text messages and pictures during the day, and now night lol. Another big plus is that he is here in the US so dealing with returns, size issues, etc is painless! You rock Steve!

Hey guys,

Crossposting this from the shoe-care thread, since I'm not sure if this might be specific to the calfskin that Carmina uses.

I have an excellent pair of well-loved Carmina chelsea boots. They're great boots, but have developed this harsh pebbly texture on the leather as well as some small pits. I'm not sure what's caused these blemishes, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the winter (I've worn them in the salty winter sleet a few times).

Here are some photos; please ignore the discoloration - they're still a little wet.

I initially thought it was some sort of salt buildup, and have used saddle soap to clean the affected area. However, the pebbly texture still remains and I'm afraid to agitate the area more. I'm not sure if the leather there has gotten really weak and is about to tear or something, so I don't want to be overly-abrasive with it.. For the record, I use Saphir's products to condition/shine them.

Has anybody seen this happen before? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
