The Official Carmina Sizing Thread - Page 20

Hi,

I'm new here on this thread and I have a question on sizing. I've been talking to Betty via email and she recommended I go with either a 7 UK Forest in an EEE or 7.5 UK Inca also in an EEE. Now I'm only 5'7" and I measured from heel to toe is 10 inches and 4 inches on the width of the ball. I know she's the expert but do you think the EEE width is a bit excessive? Also if that is the correct width, will they look like clown shoes on me?

Is it a consensus here that you should size up .5 going from an Inca last to Simpson?

Eyeing those chocolate suede oxfords online...

Edit: hmm reviewing earlier posts it looks like Inca = Uetam = -0.5 Simpson?

I.E. I'm an 11 in Inca so Uetam would be an 11 as well but Simpson I should order 10.5 ?

I can wear 8UK in Inca but 8.5UK for Rain, Oscar and Uetam.

Anyone own this model?

Thoughts in general? Thoughts on sizing?

Thanks.

Tough call. I'd usually say go for your normal UK size for the forest last, but some like to size down a half for loafers.

I pulled the trigger on these. Got them from Carmina's website - USD $423. My regular size is UK8.5. I ordered UK8. I like my loafers and monks to fit rather snug.

Please stop by and tell us how they fit when you get them. I'm sure others could benefit from your experience.

FYI I just received by Simpson Last lace-ups.

I sized up 0.5 from my Incas but really wasn't necessary.

My Incas were a tiny bit tight and these new Simpsons are a tiny bit lose.

I'd say if you are a solid fit with an Inca stick with that size.

I thought I would add a note on Carmina sizing compared to Alden US sizes.

Background: I wear a 8.5C on the Alden Aberdeen last.  I can wear 8.5D on the Alden Hampton last comfortably with $3 Dr Scholls insoles to fill out the shoe.

That said, I ordered the Carmina Rain last in 910 Cognac Cordovan in 7.5UK standard width.  They are slightly big for my foot, but a closer fit than the 8.5D Aldens.  I could wear the Carmina with a thick sock, or a dress sock with an insole.

So, for me, 8.5C Alden = 7.5UK Carmina Rain + thick sock or insole and the fit is good.

I will also add the shipping was fast, customer care responsive and the shoes are great. My only 'complaint' - and its not a complaint really - is that the quarter of the shoe does not wrap around my ankle snugly unless I hold it in place when I lace the shoes. I imagine that the leather will 'learn' to conform in time.

I am TTS US9.5D and wear UK8.5E in C&J and JL and 9E in EG.

I like my loafers and monks snug.

I am reporting back, as was requested of me. I ordered the above shoe in UK8. A rich dark brown tassel. A really classy shoe. The fit of the left shoe was great - comfortably snug, no heel slippage, damn near perfect. The fit of the right shoe was miserable - noticeably wider than the left shoe, not snug, and my foot was literally coming out of the shoe with each stride. The heel slippage was terrible. The shoes - on sight alone - were not consistent, with the right shoe appearing wider. A comparison of the outsoles had the right shoe 1/4 inch wider.

I have the below shoe, on the Inca last, in UK8, and the fit is great:

Betty at Carmina has been very pleasant and they will pay for return shipping. The experience has been disappointing to say the least, but it will not be my last Carmina purchase. But it does confirm my contention that a guy will experience QC issues with essentailly all makers if he is in the game long enough.

Thanks for the update! I've been looking to get a pair of monks in the Inca last myself and have been trying to figure out if I should size down 1 or 1.5 sizes from US to UK (US8.5D) and with no opportunity to try a pair. I enjoy a snug fit.

It's too bad that one of the loafers was wide, I really like their design.

I'm considering diversifying my shoes with a few carminas. I have a wide foot, not super wide but wide enough that I need to go into 8EE width on the allen edmonds 5 last. I can wear 8.5d on the 5 last but it's not ideal.

How does the forest and rain last compare to AE 5 last, are they roomier in the forefoot? Or should I look elsewhere.

Hi All,

Recently purchased a pair of suede double monks on the simpson last, and a pair of calf black double monks on the Inca last. I love both pairs.

My question is, does anybody else wear different sizes in these lasts? For the simpson I took a 9.5, and for the Inca I went down to a 9.

Anybody else do the same with these particular lasts?

Thanks,

M

I'm actually in a similar boat, except I did it backwards. Got an 11 in the Inca, as 12 is my usual size, but the fit just doesn't work for me in length or girth. About to put in an order half a size down AND in the Simpson last, so I'm a little nervous.
