Is this plaid suit too dated to be worn?

There is "out there" and there is "fashion mistake" I'm afraid even the venerable PT can't pull this one off.

Thanks guys, I think I'll let that one go. I did however pick this up recently, a Chester Barrie, 100% cashmere. I'll try to meet Man of Lints high expectations with it.

Those pants as odd trousers would be pretty cool though.

I like this. And the cut looks modern.

I was thinking that the pants themselves migh be OK, but that with the jacket and large lapels, the suit may be too dated to be worn today. Opinion?

Might be OK for clowning around in. Is it 100% polyester?

Yes, it might be that it is photographed at a more flattering angle than the suit, but it doesn't look dated and I could see it working well, in a way that I think the suit couldn't.

This kind of plaid jacket always reminds me of Americans that talk too loud. 100% cashmere though, that's unusual for the 1970s isn't it?

It's really sort of odd to me to see both such a bad suit and such a good coat posted by the same person. The suit in the first post would look kind of sad, frankly. It would only even look acceptable on someone in a trendy English band or something along those lines. The sport coat, however, looks amazing and I'd wear it without hesitation.
