Options:

1. Men's Warehouse rental - quoted for $175 including tux and accessories (shirt, bowtie, shoes, etc)

2. Purchase - $150 for Pronto Uomo but it's just the tux: http://www.menswearhouse.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10051_10672_10601_266822_-1__FORMAL_10051_?cm_vc=10672

If you were a groomsman, what would you prefer?

If neither, any other alternate suggestions? (budget-friendly only)

why not ask your groomsmen, rather than us?

their response: "Up to you"

Far superior solution: ask them if they all own either navy suits or grey suits, and just have them wear those.

If I were a groomsman and you insisted on me wearing this tux, I suppose I'd rather buy it so that I could get it tailored properly, and so that at least I wouldn't be stuck with the likely horrific accessories. But keep in mind you're asking a group of people who care about clothes a lot and will therefore want to have as much control as possible - if your only goal is to maximize the happiness of your typical groomsmen, they may value convenience over control.

If you want to get them looking as good as possible while still wearing this tux, let them buy it. Just be sure they wear shoes that aren't too inappropriate.

If the rental tux has the same/similar styling as the Pronto Uomo, why not give them each the choice?

Rent.  You can always give them the option of buying it instead, so they can do that if they want, but it's lighter on the wallet and more considerate to just have them rent by default.

The rental tuxes from Men's Wearhouse are truly horrible. I recently had a friend attend a wedding and the tux he rented was hilarious and the tie they provided was at least 4 inches wide.

That being said, most guys probably don't really care what their tux is going to look like and might appreciate the cheaper option.

Could not have said it better
